Wow, that's a classic. If your trans is all original and has never been rebuilt, I would stick with the original Dexron fluid specified by GM for such models. Get the fossil oil variant; NO synthetics, because your old tranny is likely to have very fragile gaskets and clutch plates.
On the other hand, if you've got a new or recently remanufactured unit, you might want to consider a synthetic fluid like Mobil 1 synthetic Dexron. Good luck.

They don't make it anymore. It used Dexron. Dexron was superseded by Dexron II, and now Dexron III. Use it only. don't use F or any of the synthetics. It wouldn't know what to do with any of that. Kinda like a man who took a forty year nap and tries to make sense of cell phones and the Concorde Jet.

You can use either .Type F will give a firm shift.Dexron 3 is a Gm type fluid.Both fluids will work fine but don`t mix if you can get around it
