I get junk from that company, too. I wonder if it bothes them at all how much paper they are wasting!

It is not a total lie. If you read the fine print on the back of the application you will discover what their terms for pre-approval are, normally it is you have lived at a particular address for more than X amount of time and that they have not found any judgements or bankruptcies in open filings.

Of course my 5 year old is pre-approved by those conditions and she has the applications to prove it.

I bet there is some fine print.

Typically the pre-approved part means that you are approved to apply....and the approval of your application depends on a number of creditworthy factors.

It's a bit misleading, but folks nowadays understand those pre-approved offers are junk mail.

You're *pre-approved* when you have a physical address to send the 'invitation' to.

its to get your hopes up then they cut you down to size after they tell you "sorry" then your credit score goes even lower
