If you're serious into computers, a lot of my computer professors swear by mac. IBM I think doesn't make personal computers, I believe they gave that to the Chinese Leveno brand, which is supposed to be good. HP makes a good machine as well. If you're looking to buy, try looking at consumer reports to get a really accurate, unbaised overviews. ConsumerReports.org is a great site but there's a subscription fee of 4.95/mo or 19.99/year. It's actually worth it-they have a lot of things on there. Anyway, Mac's aren't always compatible with websites and programs, so if you want something easy to use you may want to opt out of a mac. The truth is, most computers run about the same now, you'll want to pay attention more to the warranties and customer service that the brand offers to get the best bang for the buck.

Mac. Far more reliable than IBM. Far more innovative as well.

Plus, if you get an IBM computer, you will be stuck in a Windows world... and thats a horrible place to be.

Unless you run Linux... but then again, there isn't jack sh*t software suport for Linux. At least you can find Mac software at Office Depot. If you ask for Linux support, they just stare at you blankly like a monkey doing a math problem.

Mac is easier, more secure, has a lower total cost of ownership, and some Mac models cost less than comparably equiped Dells! Only Macs can run OS X, Linux, and Windows. Definitely get a Mac!
