I see many conservatives talking about Jesus and the teachings of the Bible more often.

Jesus doesn't have a grave, he ascended into heaven bodily after the resurrection.
But I digress.
Jesus was a communist, so I don't think either party would really want to claim him as their mascot. He told the rich man to "sell all that you own, give the money to the poor, and follow me." His followers (until the Romans usurped his faith) lived in communes where they all worked for the common good and shared all that they had. This is communism done right. Couldn't last, unfortunately. It would take someone with the benevolence of a saint to lead them, and saints are hard to come by.

I'm tired of everybody using Jesus to justify their own position.
We've all been trained from birth to associate the name of Jesus with all that is good and righteous. All we need to do is attach the Jesus⢠brand name to anything and we instantly have the endorsement of millions of sheep. I know what you're saying here - you're complaining about the usurpation of Jesus by the GOP for political gain, which is surely as sleazy as anything - but why does the counter argument have to involve claiming Jesus as a "liberal"? Why can't we argue from the inherent reason and soundness of our own proposals?
Let the man rest - he's been spinning in the grave for 2 millenia.

There was a lnog tradition of progressivist Christianity in the US: abolishonist, pro-union, anti-child-labor, workplace safety, fair wages, aid for the poor, etc.
But Christians have lost that tradition lately; they seem more interesting in "smite thine enemies" than "love thy neighbor." They also seem more aligned with the pro-slavery crowd in the sense that they pick and choose only the scripture that justifies the injustices that benefit them; ignoring the overall spirit and intent.

Jesus was a conservative he said love thy neighbor, he preached taking care of each other,he didn't say tax the crap out of your neighbor and have the government take care of your neighbor. He also said let the children come unto me, he didn't say we should abort 30,000,000 babies in 30 years.
