Night by Elie Wiesel
---
This is a great book about the authors true stories living in a concentration camp. This is a very shocking story and really makes you think. In one of my classes we have talked about it for HOURS and we could just go on and on. Great book. Needs to be read.

I am a writer, and English major and so feel qualified to help you out if I may. We all have moral differences so it is hard to be general in this regard. However, think of things that are happening in your area, and create a very good story. For example, there is a very serious incident that occurred in my town. A mother and her son were going to their place of worship when two rival gang members aged, 16 and17 got into an altercation. As the family passed in the car, a gun was fired and the child was struck and wounded seriously. Weeks later, the mother asked for mercy for the gang member and requested that the gang member come and see the child at the hospital, talk to him about the violence in gangs and how it can affect innocent people. The mother can express forgiveness in your story and the gang member can reform. Just a thought.

Anything by Flannery O'Connor is very moral and twisted. It might be a little bit high level for your grade (not sure what grade you're in), but it's really good reading for anyone that wants to think.

There is a very good short story 'The Lottery' by Shirley Jackson. A lot of discussion can result from this story.

It would help to know the grade level, but check the link for a good, moral short story.
The second and third and fourth links give quite a selection.

How about a high school graduate that is in the military the next year, and in a foreign country - dealing with death and the first time he has to shoot at someone.
