good question. i like the sounds of many different rock vocalists. here are some:

james hetfield (metallica): sheer powerful voice, that voice could go through a stone wall.

tim armstrong (rancid): couldn't find a more unique vocalist, with an awesome sense of unique melody. even though his voice can't stand going above a loud talking tone, great speed and such.

tim mcllath (Rise Against): awesome guy anyway, ver intelligent, but also has kick-*** vocals. excellent melody and lyrics. that band is going to go down as a punk rock legend.

kurt cobain (Nirvana): awesome hard rock voice. what he didn't have in annunciation, he had in power and guitar-playing skills. definetely cool. although a very dark and troubled character.

those are some of the best rock vocalists this world has known. although there are some better, those are my personal favorites. maybe elvis or axl rose should go up there, but i don't like their bands.

Two of my all time favorite vocalists in rock music are Steve Perry of Journey and Freddie Mercury of Queen.

Roger Daltry. Great stuff with The Who. I saw him doing Britsh Rock Symphony, singing Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd. He was fantastic.

Steve Perry, the lead singer for Journey. No one even comes close, especially since most of the vocalists listed so far don't really sing, they just scream/mumble.

Phil Anselmo-Pantera, Down, SuperJoint Ritual because he's such an animal... but at the same time he allows you to feel his pain and bears his soul for all to see!
