America has failed to secure security in Iraq and Afghanistan. Its economy is beginning to slow and with the ever increasing pressure to reduce carbon emissions are we reaching a global shift in power just like we had at the end of the Victorian empire in the when England was the global power? Sure America still has might but it commands far less power than it used to

you are wrong in your assumptions about iraq ... you are lead to believe it isnt working out good over there but the truth is we have created an excuse to stay .... and the real reason we are in the middle east is to subjugate and eventually secure the whole thing including iran and syria and control all its oil ... in the overall view the doctrine is such that it can be seen as a strategic move that is slowly occuring to head off world domination by China in the future ...

The USA is an unrivaled superpower and its hold on world politics has become so toxic such that whenever it spreads its tentacles, an unending situation arises. However, I believe America's days of reckoning are within sight.
On its domestic front, the once revered American dream seems to becoming elusive to many college graduates who are failing to find meaningful work. The country is in debt because of the spiralling cost of war budgets.
Its view on Israel and the way it supports dictators makes really democrates to question the sanity of American leaders. It does not adhere to the UN laws and even its citizens don't go along with its foreign policy.
Empires have fallen so one day it will be America's turn but I wouldn't want to see China being the superpower as their policies are worse than the USA.What America needs is a president who appreciates the views of other global leaders, but looking at the calibre of leaders, I wouldn't blame the USA's policy.

The U.S economy has never been stronger. We have a lower unemployment rate now than there ever was in Clinton Administration, and the dow just reached an all time high this week.

The reason America is threatened is because ill informed individuals blame the U.S. for anything they can (trying to villianize the country) while it's leaders are more concerned with doing what is politically correct instead of what is right.

But this girl still has a few tricks under her sleeve so don't count the U.S. out just yet.

Although America definitely has some kinks to work out in places, we probably won't be seeing the end for a long time to come. Democracy works, all governments go through slumps, mostly during times of war. This was especially evidenced during the Civil War and WWII. During the Civil War, there was unbelivable amounts of inflation, and in WWII everyone was living on ration stamps. We're just going through a slump right now.

A major cause of concern for Americans however, is that China has bought over $250 billion of America's debt. Definitely something that makes you think...

Wrong you are!

Far, far, far, from over.......America is the ONLY Superpower Nation......There can be no other Supepower like it and the world last in peace.........I'm sure this has more to do with why America is hated than anything else. America is the one nation that seems to help everyone....Even it's own enemies. You should pray for such a nation's prosperity and continued grace and charity.......How would other nations govern and cooperate with lesser nations if given such power!?

America is the one global force you should be thanking.

Over!? In your dreams, buddy-boy!

You are right, but your time frame is too vague. China can mount an army of about 300,000,000 men now....equal to the entire population of the whole US. China has rockets, missiles, atomic subs and a more stable economy (the RMB is now international and has devalued the dollar. Population growth is stabilizing (a slight technical brought about by the elderly living longer), increasing wages. Technology is growing and Japan and the US are outsourcing electronics to China, Both Ford and Buick now have factories here. More and more food exports are being sent to the US (shrimp, canned foods and Tsing Tao beer). More people speak English here than in the US. We have an efficient rail system (both passengers and freight) and the highways are being improved and new expressways are added yearly (with beautiful rest stops...and slightly obscene cartoons drawn on the walls in front of urinals)...churches are open, temples are everywhere and the number of tourists is about 25,000,000 a year and more to come with the Olympics. Governmental concern over pollution is manifested in strict new laws. It is still true that farmers are poor, but it is a complicated issue of how to improve their lives without upsetting the whole economy. Many of the farmers around my area earn only about $100.00 a month. 30,000 new residential phones are installed each week. China produces about 45% of the corn grown in the world. As you know from the news, China has opened relations with six nations in Africa for the exploration of oil (much to the chargrin of Bush), and we have a joint venture in Australia and Indonesia and syarted buying oil from Venezuela. There are three political problems here, Hong Kong that clamors for freedom, Taiwan feels it should be independent and Tibet that claims they were hijacked. Hong Kong today is no different that it was under the British amd people have the same freedoms...both Hong Kong and Macau and border citys are under a SAR (Special Administrative Region) but nothing has changed...and the cost of living reflects a standard about the same as Los Angeles. The Taiwan problem began with the Soong Family and their wealth. Charlie Soong support Chiang Kai Shek, a very corrupt leader and affliated with the 'Green Gang' that smuggled opium and was a veritable mafia, one of Charlie's daughters married Chiang,(May-ling) and was able to get several billion dollars out of congress by people like Everett Dirksen, etc. FDR was fond of her, and so were many wealthy men like Luce and Julian Carr, another sister married Sun Yat Sen (the founder of the Republic of China) and the 3rd married a rich man named H. H. Kung. One of Charlie's son T. V. Soong (educated at Harvard) was once the wealthiest man in the world...With much financial backing, and the political power of the US, Chiang set up the country of Taiwan, that had been both a Portuguese colony and a Japanese fiefdom. Mao Tse Tung and Ambassador Hurley of the US disliked each other intensely and so the animosity grew and the US signed a mutual support treaty with Taiwan, sort of to annoy Mao....You will hear rumors about China preparing to attack Taiwan...but that is the media...across the strait from Taiwan is Fu Kien Province and I have been to Xiamen, and there isn't a mad rush to fortify the area...business as usual...rumors in the press about massive build-ups do not include the reason for inducting new soldiers into the army. We do have too many people, and while soldiers are not well-paid, they are provided with food and shelter and uniforms, and I have seen squads of soldiers sweeping streets...not fighting! Tibet is another problem. China at one time was paranoid about the US and being surround by nuclear powers...France, Russia, India and the US and decided to add more to their perimeter. Both the religious leader as well as the administrative leader was the DaLai Lama but the economy was poor, there were few social programs and China moved in...you hear about the massacres...yes, some people died...but nothing like what reports say. The US smuggled out the DaLai Lama and he has been a political embarassment everywhere he goes....to be friendly with him ripples the waters of international relationships...to ignore the leader of Buddhism is rude...But he has recently been to Outer Mongolia and perhaps the rift will heal. President Hu JinTao was the Administrator in Tibet for a few years and made many improvements. Two months ago a new railroad was opened to Lhasa, which will greatly improve tourism and trade with that isolated area. However, the US is in a down spin because of its own making...a protracted war, such as in Vietnam, corruption, outsourcing, demands for higher minimum wage, decreased productivity, drugs, illegals, political scandals, uncontrolled weapon ownership, poor relationships with other nations, our superiority complex and a leadership composed of vested-interests...

If you believe the liberal media you think there is chaos but as Mr Rumsfeld says, "I don't read the news". We winning in Iraq and soon will control all the oil in the middle East, we will invade Iran and soon Saudi Arabia then stop supplies to China and make them pay us quite a lot of money for it. We will also invade Venezuela and get the communists out of there and we will soon have most of the oil in the world and as we know who owns the oil has the power in the world.
