basketball is played indoors and football is played outhdoors so wouldn`t it help to play indoor games in winter and outdoor games in summer?

The only reason there was basketball over the summer if because of the World Basketball Championships. NBA, College, and high school basketball seasons are all during the late fall/winter/early spring.

What going to knock Baseball out-The national sport. Head to Head?
I don't think so.
Besides basketball is played in the "winter"
Football starts in the fall.
Sports overlap for short durations.
Big money.
Football is played "winter" because it is basically a one day a week game -primarily Sunday.
Can't get people out in the cold every night or day.
Makes sense in the POCKET BOOK- THE BOTTOM LINE>

Have you ever noticed that the NBA ends in June and starts back up in July?
And everybody bitches about the length of a NASCAR season. yeah, it may be 40 weeks, but it is only 36 points events and two non-points events. Basketball will be played almost every night for nine+ months.
