I agree with a previous answer - Powell is one of the few Republicans I truly admire - and the Republican Party would do well to give him some respect. He's a free-thinking, critical thinker - unlike the majority of the current Republican Party & their groupies (who are all over this website).

Believe me - Powell is no fan of Bush or the neoCons. In a conversation in 2004 with British Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, he apparently called the neocons in the Bush Administration as "F'n crazies".

In letter to Sen. McCain, Powell expressed opposition to Bush's push for military tribunals of those formerly and currently classified as enemy combatants. Specially, he expressed concern of Bush's plan to "amend the interpretation of Article III of the Geneva Conventions."

he also pointed out that the War on Terror may be losing moral support saying, "The world is beginning to doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism."

I think Powell's opinion of Bush is pretty clear.

Well, I don't get to listen into Colin Powell's thoughts, but based on what happened, he was willing to put difference aside in order to work under him in the first term.

Colin Powell disagrees with many of the president's policies. He became a free thinker, and so he had to leave. But he is one of the few Republicans i truly respect.
