Some might say The Who, The Kinks, The Hollies, Pink Floyd or Fleetwood Mac, but I think it's the combination of the incarnations of any bands Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Rod Stewart and Steve Winwood were in, such as Blind Faith, the Yardbirds, Jeff Beck Group, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Traffic, Mayall's Blues Breakers, the Graham Bond Organisation, etc., and perhaps the Faces, all of which in essence represent a rolling carnival of British excellence which cannot be pinned down to one single band.

Many British Bands have influenced the American Charts, The Kinks were very influential in the Late 60's/70's as were The Small Faces and continuing from that T - Rex and a lot of the punk era.

Seeing as how the Rolling Stones do nothing but emulate American music, I don't think they had any influence whatsoever.

The answer has got to be LED ZEPPELIN, surely?

Jazz and blues are the only true American art form. Most of the really great players were black, and the whites tended to look down on the music. A few had their carer es renewed because of the likes of Eric Clapton's take on the blues, although he wasn't the only Brit to give them kudos. American Jazz has a lot to be thank full for our early Rock bands.
