Is there a command that I can use to reinstall TCP/IP on a windows xp pro sp1 machine. Will not let me remove it using GUI. Yes I am logged in to the administrator account.

For XP SP 1, the process is more complicated than in SP 2. To reset it, you need to get to the administrative tools under the control panel. You need to delete certain files, I don't remember which ones. You can do a search on google.

You should upgrade to SP 2 either way. SP 2, it is easier, it is just netsh winsock reset catalog. It resets the winsock files, at the same time, it also refreshes the tcp/ip.

Start/Programs/Control Panel/Add Remove Programs/Add Remove Windows Components/Networking Services/Simple TCP/IP Services

Could you clarify by what you mean by using the GUI? Can you not edit the registry? If not, you can try "netsh ip int reset reset.log"

If you can get into the registry, back up and delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WinSock2 key, then restart.

Hope this helps.

Hi there,

Go to "Run" type cmd. Type ipconfig /? That will tell you the command you need to know.
