Yeah, I used to live in Chicago for about four years and I never could quite figure this out. The residential segregation was very intense.

I don't know, do you like NYC? It has a different feel from Chicago, but if you love a lot of things about Chicago, you might really like living in New York....(I lived there for about 3 years)...I mean, there are parts of New York that are notorious for having nasty racial attitudes, but overall it does not have that intense residential segregation that's like the elephant in Chicago's living room....When I was in New York I had friends who lived in Fort Greene, Brooklyn which was a cool neighborhood, lots of arts stuff, and very multi-racial...There was this article in the New York Times this week about the borough of Queens that might interest you - regarding black prosperity in Queens...(And there are parts of Queens that are really nice, areas that have an Evanston-like feel in terms of the urban landscape) And there was another article just yesterday in the Thursday home section or the Thursday style section that had to do with kind of the upscaling of 125th Street that you might also take a look at... I don't know, you could use a few vacation days to visit NYC and see if you like it...

Segregation is found in almost every part of this world, however since we are talking of the US and zeroed down in chicago, than well I feel we do have segregation problem here, but again I personally feel/have experienced that its not the same throughout the city, there are places up north like rogers park that actually have people from different races, religions and ethnic backgrounds living together in one area.

Yes, I was born and raised in Chicago. Yes, there is a problem w/race relations there. Its totally different here in San Diego, CA. There are more interracial couples and different ethnicity. Since the Latino population is very big it is so different than Chicago b/c they have more Mexican food and your neighborhood could have a variety of different ethnicities. As far as the east coast when I visited NYC, I liked it also b/c it was a variety of people. I think that is what make a city when you have people from all different backgrounds.

Chicago is very "Old School" and yes still very racist although the city is in denial about that. I think the East coast is more cultural but I don't think there is much difference in the segregation issues. Try the West coast. It's not quite as expensive to live there and the weather is better.

Who cares about the segregation it's not something you need to worry about because the neighborhoods are starting to become diverse. You will be paying a lot to live on the East Coast since the taxes are outrageous. You need to worry about the fact that you live in one of the cleanest and most accessible cities in America that people are moving to in drones because it's relatively cheap to live here comparing to some cities.

Sure, you don't like the neighborhood?? Move! But if you are LOOKING to cry racism...you will certainly find a "reason", wherever you go.
