The film, like the films Psycho, Deranged and The Silence of the Lambs, was loosely inspired by Ed Gein. Gein did wear human skin, but he acted alone and did not use a chainsaw. Although the film's opening would have one believe that the events are factual, it is merely a scare tactic, called the false document technique, to frighten the audience.

Director Tobe Hooper claims to have got the idea for the film while standing in the hardware section of a crowded store. While thinking of a way to get out through the crowd, he spotted the chainsaws.

I don't know how many times I've seen people asking if it was true. A little research would quickly tell them it isn't.

Because in order to create that psychological fear, they promoted the movie as "based on a true story". Like they did with blair witch. The movie is scarier if the person thinks it did or could happen in real life. The movie failed to state how loosely based the story was. The man didnt use a chainsaw to kill his victim but did wear the skin as you say.I have to admit that when I thought it really was true I was scared sh%$less! lol

Rainbows seem simply by mist interior the air from the rain turning out to be an optical result we call the rainbow.. If rain had in no way handed off until now the flood simply by fact the Bible states then there would not be a mist interior the air to grant this optical result interior the sky.. subsequently its honest to declare that rainbows in no way handed off until now the flood making an allowance for that rainbows in essence are the made of rain.. @Gat: You seem to no longer comprehend what a rainbow is, have you ever seen a waterfall come from the sky?, i'm effective you haven't any longer, subsequently the optical result you notice from waterfalls are no longer rainbows subsequently the call.. Waterfalls do recent an identical result yet they do no longer seem to be rainbows, rainbows are the effects of rain that falls from clouds, use your innovations and don't misconstrue issues just to win an argument.. A rainbow is a rainbow no longer a waterfall-bow, once you have a bathtub might you seek advice from it as raining on your bathe, in case you observed an optical result on your bathing room from the bathe might you call it a rainbow, end taking part in the fool to capture the sensible..

what a coincidence! I finally looked into that last night. Ed Gein was a sick guy, Norman Bates from Psycho and Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs were also kinda based off of him.

Never happened ... The original was so retarded that the producer hated it . So the director added in the "Based on a true story" ,that convinced the producer to run the movie....
Not sure that's how it came about, but that's how I heard it /
