A borderline result means that very slight changes were found in your cervical smear. The cells are not abnormal but they’re not quite normal either. A borderline result is probably not what you were hoping for, but these minor changes usually go back to normal on their own and are nothing to worry about. It may simply be that your cervix was irritated when the smear was taken or that your body was fighting an infection. In any case, you will be asked to return for a repeat smear, usually in 3 to 6 months, to check that the cells have in fact gone back to normal.
hope this helps xx

Oh ! you mean Borderline cervical smear?
When you have your regular cervical smear, the result will be either normal (negative) or abnormal. A small proportion of tests cannot be completed because of a lack of visible cells on the slide. In such cases, you'll be invited for a repeat test.
A BORDERLINE test result doesn't necessarily mean cancer has been found or that it is likely to develop. The laboratory has simply identified some changes in the cells that require further investigation. In many cases, these are just minor abnormalities that would disappear without treatment. However, a few will progress to cancer, which is why further investigation is warranted.
Abnormal cells are scaled from borderline normal ('not quite right') through mildly abnormal, severely abnormal to invasive cancer. Depending upon the degree of abnormality, women may be asked to have a repeat smear in six or 12 months, or may be referred for a further test of the cervix known as a colposcopy.

Border line means just that. That is your result. It means that the cells are at a stage when they COULD change. My daughter had it and was told that quite often the cells revert to being reproduced normally on their own, so by the next smear they could be perfect. By the way, if they are classed as being abnormal it would be up to 15 years before they would actually be reproducing in malignant form. Try not to worry and keep with the advice of your health practitioner.

If its borderline then it means minimal changes - very slight. Hence the wait and watch approach. Just make sure you go for the follow up smear in 6 months time. Good luck and hopefully it will amount to nothing.

Maybe your doctor meant borderline.
Borderline usually means a slight change in the cells, if it was serious, or if there was a problem with your test, you would have been recalled for a further one immediately.
Try not to worry, but if you are speak to your doctor or practise nurse.

yeah, it means very small changes have occurred not enough to alarm them but enough to make them want to keep an eye on things.
