You will probably get a lot of people telling you to get Boa and other constrictors, make sure you research how large these animal get. I would recommend something like a corn-snake or maybe a Ball or Royal Python.

Corn Snakes are the best beginner snake. They eat like pigs, are very low maintenance and grow incredibly quickly. Your average corn snake grows to almost 1,5m/5ft in length, so take that into consideration when building/purchasing a tank (at least 20 gallons).
Basically you need a weekly supply of mice/rats (preferably mice, as rats have high fat content), you should feed your corn snake 1-2 times per week when they are young and only once a week when older. The temp should be kept around 75-85 F, as for substrate newspaper wil do. Water is essential as they often take long drinks.
If you would like to make an exhibit out of it then do some research and take a look at the products offered from exo-terra, I persoanlly use a lot of their stuff.
Hope this helps!

Id say a corn snake or garter snake for a young kid. They are easy to keep. I have had 2 6ft boa constrictors they were great friendly snakes, loved to have a bath too. when i moved house there was no room so they went to Southport Zoo. Royal pythons are nice snakes too, make sure you get quite a young snake that is eating DEAD food.

She clearly is crazy for wanting a snake for her 6-year old, but much worse than that is her poor ability with sentence construction. Here's her one answer:-
"it depend if the reason u have no relationship with ur father is a bad one do u think he will want to fill a void in ur childrens lives an be there grandfather or is it possible he would have no interest at all if the later then all it will acheieve is upset to ur children an make u more angry at him"

corn snake is the best choice as a first reptile good luck but do some research first before you commit to buying one as a pet and they still need the right environment and care etc. so you will have some work looking after it.

Definetly a corn snake. I had 2 as my first snakes and they are so simple. If you get more than one though - do NOT feed them together

Id say a ball python, they get sortof big about 5 feet long and sortof fat. They are very easy to take care of you just want to make sure you hold him/her often so they dont get aggresive with your son. I have 3 of them plus a red tail boa. I suggest The Ball Python Defintly. Just so you know they can live for a long time.

get a ball python. they are the easiest snake to care for, for children that young. i have 2 of them and my kids hold them all the time. my youngest child is 4yrs old and he holds them too. they get to be about 4-5 ft long. they are the most non-aggressive snake for children.
