My husband past away last year and now its up to me when I break something to repair it. I live in the country so I can't just go get something repaired. I was mowing I hit a rock it jammed between the blade and the deck It stopped running, I knocked the rock out I don't see anything broke like a belt or anything but it won't start, it won't even turn over its like its dead. HELP

most riders have a safety switch for the deck . so first disconnect the plug wire and look under the hood on most mowers if you look at the arm that ingages the belt below the steering wheel you will find this switch if you hit something hard enough to jam it then u may have relocated this switch .. as I dont know the exact year, make or model i cant tell you exact but as a mower mech. that would be my first place too look .. e mail me if i can help more i will try!!!!

You may have to call some one handy with tools. You didn't blow up the motor, it sounds like you sheared the keyway. You can buy a pack of them a Ace hardware, Home Depot or Lowe's for $5. BUT,...you have to take the top cover off of the motor. Remove the large Flywheel and the keyway is on the crankshaft right there under the flywheel. Knock it out with a nail punch or small cold chisel, put the flyweel back on and put it all back together. Then put your hands on the screen looking part and turn it as hard as you can. Hop on and start it up. The keyway is designed to shear off so that you don't break any internal parts of the engine, but check to make sure that you didn't bend any blade engagement safety switches or linkages. Just sit on the seat and move the handle back and forth while turning the key,. GOOD LUCK!

The one right above has it mostly right..... But never buy aftermarket keys, use oem.....
And never use anything other then a puller on a electric start engine.... why? When knocking on it, it may break the flywheel... when knocking on it from underneath, you will damage the ring gear (what the starter catches to, turns the engine over)

And of course flywheel nut torque is crutial.... if its not right, you'll more then likely shear it again...

If it won't even turn over? it sounds like it knocked a kill switch aloose.

what you should do is unplug the sparkplug then try to move the blade, if it doesn't move you probably wasted the cam ,if it does move ,plug the sparkplug back in and try to start it again. What you decribed doesn't sound to bad,a belt should slip before the motor blowes up
