I think I am one, and proud of it.
Looking in the mirror to see if I am fat? 6' 185lbs, nope don't see a whole lot of fat. Yelling at the neighbors to ask them if I am loud. Oops may be guilty on that one. How amusing this is. You know I think it is perfectly ok to dislike a government, but I really think it is useless to hate any person unless I actually know them, but then I am just one of those intolerant Americans. What do I know?

Americans are like everyone else. The people of any country each have their likes and loves and dislikes and hates. They have problems and good times, and they are just people. The problem with America as a whole is the same problem every country has, politicians that want power. Politicians then make up all kinds of things to attain that power.
All of a sudden America is God's country and can do no wrong, and so if another country steps against America they must be in league with the devil. And all other countries do is look for ways to destroy us. Which is a bunch of bullsh**. Left to ourselves, Americans as a whole would accept any other culture and any other culture would accept Americans. But politicians say we are good (playing to our ideas of who and what we are) and that therefore everyone else is wrong if they go against us.
Back when WWII started each country (Germany, Britian, France) that was a major part at the beginning said that the other side was eating Belgian babies and so they must go in to save those kids. Of course no one was eating any babies, but it was enough to convince the people to support war; and so began WWII. Its the same today. Terrorists inhabit all Muslim countries and are out to destroy America (when in reality terrorists make up a very, very small part of the Muslim population); and they say all Americans are out to establish an empire and establish world domination (when in reality there are only 2 or 3, mainly Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld with a little help from Karl Rove).
We all need to remember that people the whole world over may have different customs, but we are all basically the same.

What "Americans" are you talking about? America is a big huge pot of mixed races. The Indians were the first living here and then so many other races came to this country to live here. They mixed up. I am not an American but I live here. My daughter was born here, she is half german and half mexican...she is an American. So...I guess Americans are as good or as bad as all other races. That would mean an american citizen from Italy or an Chinese born here would be good or bad....The american politic sucks right now but that doesn't make all Americans bad.

Americans (from the USA) are a great people. I have to recognise that always think great.
They struggle, never give up, in a way they are still frontier people.
They are not afraid to get involved in huge tasks.
They have the best scientists, the best economists, the best schools, etc.
They are, in many aspects, what I would like Europeans should be.
Of course they do wrongs and evil things like everyone else.
And when they go the wrong way they may be terrible.
We in Europe are tired, some of our best minds are working in the USA.
Why?
Just for money? I don´t think so.

I've lived in America and found most people to be really lovely, educated and down to earth. Although I didn't appreciate the ones who told me (on several occasions)
"Oh my God! You speak English so well! How long have you been learning for?"
Hello? I'm Scottish by the way!
I also don't like the fact that just about all of there chocolate comes with peanut butter! Bleugh!
My boyfriend of 5 years is American so I really do love them and hope to live there some day but I have to say they have given me some laughs over the years!

The ones i've met are nice enough (apart from a tendancy to exclaim on how cute my british accent is, but what can you do?). Am not so keen on some of their government policies but from the look of things neither are a hell of a lot of americans themselves. One thing i did notice travelling there was how much bigger the houses are (are americans richer or is it just cos there's more space?)

Well meaning, but overbearing. Decidedly ignorant, despite the most and best resources. This is especially true of international affairs, although most cannot name the top officials in their own government. They can be both self-centered and very generous at the same time, which is no easy feat. They're a unique lot, that's for sure!

I think we are basically very nice people with good hearts. The problem is we are very spoiled, don't have a clue about other countries and most people won't believe our government officials cheat, lie and steal. We are so busy with living our day to day lives we don't pay enough attention to what is going on around us.
