It could be that the pregnancy is causing your bladder to not empty entirely when you urinate. However, drink lots and lots of water and citrus drinks (not just cranberry juice, even orange and grapefruit juice helps), take vitamin C. Be sure to urinate quickly after sexual intercourse to wash away bacteria that was drawn in the urinary tract. And be sure to wipe front to back. If you're uncomfortable, see if you can take a product called uristat, which will numb the bladder and let you get through until your appointment time, but don't let it fool you that your infection is cured, since it's not a cure. Uristat is available in any drug store and it's pretty inexpensive, and it alleviates the pain in about 20 minutes. It will turn your urine bright orange, so don't freak out.

I get them and they can hurt! besides a prescription this is what my doc said to do. I know you heard it before but it is possible you can flush it out, I did not believe it and was so tired of drinking but it actually worked. It takes enough water so that you get a full bladder every 1/2 hour he said. So drink a lot constant for 2 days. Try not to drink too many acidic things like grapefruit juice. Cranberry and blueberry is good of course make sure it is the full juice the one without the added sugars, etc.- yes it tastes VERY sour. Urinate right after sex, & using soaps, wear cotton underware. Acidophilous is good too, it puts the good bacteria in to fight the bad. You may also need a little gatoraid since you are drinking so much to flush the bladder & kidneys, just don't have too much sugar though.

I can't stand plain cranberry juice! I opt for Cran-Grape juice instead. It works just as well to clean out your urinary tract and it tastes a hundred times better. There's also Cran-Apple too if you're not a big grape fan. Drinking this also helps me get through the time period between when I get a U.T.I. and when I can get to the doctor's office (eases the burning sensation and lessens my need to pee every 5 minutes).

I didn't have them so much when pregnant but have been having them at least once a year since I was 15 or 16, sometimes more. Staying clean, propery wiping techniques, can make a big difference, no tight fitting clothing, urinating immediately after having intercourse and washing helps tremendously. I usually always get treated with Cipro and Peridium (which I believe the Peridium can now be bought over the counter) it numbs your bladder reducing the cramping associated with the infection. That is all that I can think of.

Acidophilus! Lots of it! Take at least 6-8 pills of it daily, and you can also eat yogurt (the healthy kind with live cultures, and fructose as a sweetener instead of sugar). Stop eating sugar also for awhile. UTI's are not only caused by bacteria, but also by yeast in the system, and sugar helps breed more yeast. Don't drink the cranberry juice (mainly sugar anyway), and get cranberry pills instead. Lots of vitamin c (at least 2,000 mg. per day), and get rest. If you're havibg sex, make sure to go to the bathroom before and after, and get some of those feminine wipes to make sure you are clean before and after sex. Also, get some Dial soap (antibacterial) and when you take a shower, wash your "area" with that. No bubble baths either! Soaps can sometimes irritate the urethra, so make sure everything is hypoallergenic as well. I know this is alot of info to take in, but I have alot of experience in this area, as I suffer from chronic UTI's myself. The only way I have been able to stop them, is by the steps I just told you. Try NOT to take antibiotics if you can. They only make the problem worsen later, and you'll get a bad yeast infection to follow. Hope this helps!

I have this problem too, although I always seem to have one every 6 months or so while NOT pregnant, but theres somethng about being pregnannt it makes us prone to this!
I always get on microbid!
Also, I try and take cranberry pills ( AZO is the brand, ok for pregnancy) once ever so often, just as an extra so I dont have to force any cranberry juice down, I hate that stuff!

GOOD LUCK!

Try cutting down on refined sugars like anything with white sugar in it. Eat lots of unsweetened yogurt, and make sure you're drinking the REAL cranberry juice - not the cocktail stuff (it has lots of sugar). Real Cranberry juice is kind of bitter and has no added sugar - it also costs quite a bit more. You can also get cranberry pills in the herbal vitamin section of your pharmacy.
God Bless and pray for the best!!

Tons of water, cranberry juice and otc cranberry pills really helped me out quite a bit. It might take a day or two, but stick with it because if it doesn't eliminate the infection, it will at least help you feel better.

i also get them alot i have at least 7 a year and that's alot. I used to be able to cure them just by drinking alot of water and cranberry but not anymore that does not do anything. and also my body has adjusted to alot of the medications like cipro and bactrium and once they had to give me and IV. But now i just try to drink plenty of water and dont sit in tubs or use and type of scented stuff down there and ALWAYS urinate before and after intercouse that's a must

Get some of the over-the-counter UTI relief medications. Don't take baths or sit in Jacuzzis too much--only take showers. Eat yogurt--I think the same bacterias that help fight yeast infections and the like can probably help as a preventative measure for UTIs as well.
