Withnail and I is by far the best British film ever, but most British films are better than Hollywood can produce, I mean Hollywood are now remaking classic British Films, e.g. Italian job, get carter, Alfie etc, I looking forward to the release of Kes, it will probably have Ben Affleck and at least one cast member of friends in it!

There's loads of great ones, even though we don't seem to make all that many compared to Hollywood dross! I love Kes, Billy Liar, Wonderland (by the guy who did 24 hour part people which is also really good) and of course If, which I think is one of the best movies from anywhere, and O Lucky Man! Both starring Malcolm MacDowall from Clockwork Orange (but better films) and directed by Lindsay Anderson. Everyone should see If, it's a drama about a rebellion in an English boarding school from the late 60s and is surreal and darkly comic, but it hasn't even been released on DVD shamefully.

I'm torn between "About a Boy" (call me sentimental, but I loved it) , "Get Carter", and obviously as you say the original "Italian Job" which was just brilliant, obvioulsy as Micheal Caine was involved. I , sadly, like the American remake as well, but probably only because of Seth Green's involvement.
I also like most of the Bond movies. My favourite is License to Kill, but I'm feverently holding out hope for Casino Royale, despite everyone's naysaying. Daniel Craig WILL do great things.

if you can count trainspotting as british then that would be it for me. i think it is impressive that it shows the crap you can get into while using drugs but dosent try to be all moral and self righteous about its message and also the fact that it was written by a man with first hand experience of the drug scenr adds to the power of the film
