Tell them that gun control is unconstitutional and dangerous. I feel sorry for the Amish children but that guy was not obeying the law when he was killing why would he obey gun control laws?

Gun registration is not an answer gun owners will accept, you cannot compare gun registration to auto registration. The big difference is that gun registration is a prelude to confication. This is not a conspiracy theory because this has happened in the recent past. Canada, Australia, Great Britain and even California USA have had gun registration with confiscation quickly following,

In Zimbewe there was recently a gun confiscation, they took
away firearms from law abiding citizens. One month later they they knocked over thousands of peoples homes and killed over a hundred. It was made easier without all of those people defending themselves. It is important even in the USA to have a balance of power.

In the USA guns are often used in for self defense. In states with concealed carry laws the crime rate goes down not up. The dire predictions of wild west gun battles did not occur. It turns out criminals prefer their victims to be unarnmed.

But what about the crime rate in the USA versus Europe. The violent crime rate is much higher in Europe than in the USA (only Spain is lower). The reverse has always been spread by the dutiful media but it is not true.

I know that this is far from the answer you were looking for but if you are going to make a persuasive speech against guns you will have to deal with these and many other arguments. If you just make an emotional appeal gun people will eat you alive. Gun Owners have been under attack for many years so we have been forced to gain information to counteract the attacks, therefore we tend to have more knowledge on the subject than anti gunners. Be prepared for that.

Better yet you can truly study the situation and come to the side of the truth. Gun ownership is a great hobby, great for self defense and most importantly it is a natural right that we will not give up. The only good gun control ever did was help give the Republicans the majority.

As someone with spotless record trying to get job working with children need to get two background checks every year, so find it hard that someone buying gun doesn't have to get one at their expense. Millions of people have to prove there ability to drive a car, so find it hard to believe that you can buy a gun without some proof you know how to use it. Car registration is routine yet something equally as dangerous does not require registration. Think if you want gun you should prove your ability to use one. Would like to see registration of every gun. Know people that enjoy shooting hobby, and say fine if your licensed and gun is registered. Ask what driving would be like if one small group had been able to stop need for drivers license or car registration.

I think a speech about the recent shootings in Amish Country in PA, would be pretty persuasive.

I recommend you start doing some internet research. Try really hard to find articles/stories that show both sides of the story. Once you have read enough about both points of view, you will know what you believe, and you will know what the opposing viewpoint is so you can refute it.

Good luck.

Just please remember, guns don't kill people, people kill people. There is no way the gun os to blame. They can not fire without assistance. I know there are many views on this and I respect them all. I just can not see us allowing the government to dictate our rights to us.
