The South Africa high court ruled in favor of marriage equality in November, though the laws haven't changed yet." [see source]
A gay couple can get 'married' in the UK. It's called a Civil Union (or contract) and is performed at registry offices like hetro weddings. I'm pretty sure that the Civil Union grants all rights etc to gay couples, including the right to adopt. What you could perhaps look at is whether or not a gay marriage would allow your foreign partner to stay with you in the same country.

most of western Europe- Britain, the Scandinavian countries and the Netherlands; several others like Germany have more watered-down civil unions (as does Vermont)

I believe it's legal in Hawaii, Connecticut, Boston,and a few others??In the US.
