Plan ahead. If you intend to cook, choose a recipe that has a lot of 'do-ahead' steps so you won't be in the kitchen all the time. ( unless he likes to cook, that's another story). Choice of music is important too in setting a mood. Instrumentals are best, set at a low background volume. Lighting is also important....subdued, but not so dark you can't read a menu. Candles usually do a nice job for atmosphere. If you intent to serve wine, make sure it is already chilled if white, if red, open the bottle about 30 minute to an hour before dinner. ( of course you can have a glass while you are cooking.)
If you have never done this before, it is not a bad Idea to do a 'test run' beforehand to tweak all the elements of your romantic evening.

Start off with turning down the lights and lighting candles all over the room. Spread a blanket on the living room floor (in front of the fireplace if you have one), pour 2 glasses of wine, and maybe have some cheese & crackers on a plate. Then put on some romantic music and enjoy!

Way to a mans heart....dinner. Then a walk or movie, go out for a cup of coffee in a diner maybe or a small coffee house and just talk. get to know each other. It is best to be friends 1st, then everything will come together.
