Bush just signed legislation for over a billion dollars for building miles and miles of fence along the US / Mexico border. And the Mexicans are upset. I would have thought they would be happy. What with the thousands of US citizens that cross the border to take their jobs, get free medical care, get their children educated free, you would think they would want to keep us out.

Oh wait a minute. I just remembered it's the MEXICANS who are doing that. Well, surprise, surprise, surprise. Who would have ever thought that the MEXICANS would be upset.

One Mexican official said something to the effect of, "What we should be doing is improving relationships to become better neighbors not building fences."

Being a better neighbor means I don't break into your house, live there without paying rent, demand the neighbor give me free health care, and educate my children free of charge. Real neighbors respect each other and come to visit when they are INVITED. Then GO HOME.

To all

I have no anger against Mexicans who respect our laws. It seems everytime one presents a logical argument such as I did the response is never to refute the logic of the argument but to attack the individual as a BIGOT or racist.

I am far from a bigot. I speak Spanish and honor the Mexican culture. Illegal immigration by Mexicans does not honor our culture and most refuse to speak our language.

I would not be a US citizen if my ancestors had not LEGALLY immigrated from Scotland. I have nothing against any person who through honoring our laws immigrates legally and pays their fare share in our culture (becoming TRULY American).

I have a huge problem, though, with criminals (and anyway you slice it illegal immigration is a criminal act) entering our country and using the US to support the Mexican economy.

How very true! I work with a lot of illegals and it seems that their stand is that because they got over here, we have to deal with it. Now it seems that the Bush Administration is taking a "small" step towards dealing with it and they want to bicker about it. What a lot of people don't realize is that a BIG percent of the illegals coming into this country are MEXICAN LOYALISTS. They want the life they have here reflecting their lives down south. They don't want to BE american, they just want to LIVE american. And they don't care who they walk on, screw out of a job, run over in a drunken stupor and then lie about their name to avoid prosecution and what have you. When they start pissing and moaning about things I like to tell em, " Go back to mexico. "
They don't like hearing that....

I couldn't agree more. However, I believe that we need to do more. Right now we give illegals free healthcare and welfare, we do not crackown on their employers, we allow their kids to go to our schools, we give them drivers licenses and even let them openly protest in our streets with no repercussions. This, my friend is our biggest problem.

Think of it this way, Imagine if you had a big nice house with lots of amenities and lots of food and the neighborhood around you was filled with hungry desperate people. You build a big giant fence around your house complete with guards, yet you reward each person that illegally gets through by letting them stay in this lap of luxury for the rest of their life. Would you be surprised when you saw that hoards of people would be trying to get in despite your guards and your fence?

I say what we need to do is make tougher immigration laws, and enforce the ones already on the books. Then put extreme pressure on the Mexican government to start caring for its own people, and stop using these people (sending money back to families) to feed the Mexican economy. The Mexican economy is the responsibility of the Mexican government, NOT the U.S. taxpayer.

I'm not from Mexico. But try to imaging yourself living in a country like this. What would you like to do? Certainly US is the Melting Pot.
Maybe you're only concern with your own interests in some sort of priority to the interests of others.
Oh right! why you ought to choose to act unselfishly anyway if you have no guarantee in advance that others in the world will not act selfishly?
In a worst case scenario, imagin there's a critical situation in the US, and if you stay there you' re going to have a very difficult time, but everything is ok in México.
Well my friend, I'm sure you'll be welcome in Mexico.
Practice placing others before yourself. It feels good...

Wow, I totally underestimated the amount of hostilitysome Americans have for Mexicans. Most of these people are denied access when they legally apply, they just want the opportunities and life you people take for granted. Have some compassion. I guess enough time has passed to keep y'all from feeling totally hypocritical for doing the same (to the 9th power) to the Native Americans.

hmmm...I totally get what you're saying and it does infuriate me that in my own school district my kids do not go to our resident schools because of the hispanic population there, but I can't help but go back to we are all God's people....the earth does not belong to us but to He who created it. Yes, I really believe that so..fences, sences, it won't solve the problem.
