I have a front loader, too. I add white vinegar to the fabric softener section. Or if it is a tough load (like husband's work clothes) I add it to both the Fabric Softener section and Bleach area. Vinegar gives you the added benefit of a natural softener as well as removing odors.

Remove laundry immediately after the cycle and put it in the dryer with a fabric softener(dryer sheet). When you leave clothes in the wash after the cycle it gets musty. Also, once a month run an empty cycle with bleach to clean out contaminates.

The problem is that you are leaving you laundry too long after it's done washing, or the detergent is not strong enough. YOu can put one cap ful of pinesol in your clothes, no they won't smell like pinesol, just fresh. Make sure to take them out as soon as the wash finishes. As your regular detergent, use Tide w/Febreeze it works great.

Try putting baking soda in the water and wash again, or try washing your clothes in Vinegar. You could even soak them in nothing, but Vinegar in a basin, or tub. See if either works. I bet it will. Hope you'll let us know.

there is nothing worse than getting out of the shower and grabbing a towel that has that smell!! which i have had too.... i get a bottle of liquid color safe bleach.. it works on the smell that comes from forgetting to put the clothes from the washer to the dryer.. and we have all done it!! its safe for all colors and gets the smell out, you just put it in with your normal soap.. for added freshness.. i use two fabric sheets in the dryer..
