So My period is due today 10/6/2006 I took an EPT pregnancy test yesterday and it came back positive, a very light but CLEAR positive, so I went in and took a urine test at the Dr.s and they said it was negative so I bought ANOTHER EPT test and tested again today and it came back and EVEN darker POSITIVE! I cant help but think the DR.s were wrong? Does anyone have any suggestions? the Dr. told me to come back in 5-10days and retest, would you take to results of 2 over the counter tests over theone dr? Thanks

I have not recently had a miscarriage and I am not on any medications at all, so that rules out that on the false positive! just some added info! Thanks

False negatives are pretty common early on, but false positives are very rare. A possible reason the doctor's test came up negative is that it wasn't done with your first urine of the morning. This early on, the hormone levels may not be high enough yet to be detectable in more diluted urine samples. It would seem like a pretty good chance that if you go back to the doc in 5 days you'll get a positive test there, too.

Your result could have been a false positive.
Essentially, it is possible, but it's unlikely. If you get two lines, you're most likely pregnant. Exceptions: if you have been taking certain fertility meds with hCG, the test may be picking up the hCG from the meds and not an embryo. Also, some tests develop "positive" lines after the time limit. You should NOT read the test after the time limit (usually 10 minutes, but check the directions that came with the test.) Yes, this means you should throw the test away and NOT dig it out of the trash in three hours to see if a line magically appeared. And, if the "positive" line is gray or looks like a "dent" in the test, it is an evaporation line and not a true positive.
Lastly, if you have been pregnant recently, it's possible that the test is detecting residual hCG. However, if a pregnancy ends early on, it's unlikely that hCG will remain in your system very long, so most women have nothing to worry about here. (It's extremely common for women to conceive immediately following an early miscarriage; the body is "primed" for pregnancy, so to speak, and elevated progesterone left from the miscarriage gives the next embryo a great shot at a healthy implantation. So, most women really are detecting a new pregnancy.)
However, the more hCG you had in your system when the pregnancy ended, the longer it will take to dissipate. HPT's can even detect residual hCG for up to 6 weeks following a full-term birth. It's a possibility you should keep in mind if you get positive HPT results soon after a previous pregnancy ended.

I'd look into getting another Dr. They should do a blood test. It is very rare to get a false positive on a pregnancy test. Urine tests detect if you have the hcg hormone (which your body produces when you are pregnant). If your hcg level is too low for the test to detect it, then you can get a false negative. The EPT was probably more sensitive than the test the Dr. took, especially since you got 2 positive results. A blood test will show how much hcg hormone is in your body. This number will double every 2-3 days. I would call your Dr. back and let them know you got another positive response and ask them to do a blood test. If they still want you to wait 5-10 days, look for another Dr. Early Prenatal care is so important, why would they make you wait?
Best of luck for a healthy pregnancy and baby!

It is very unlikely that a pregnancy test would come out positive if you weren't pregnant. There may have been something wrong with the test the doctor gave you. The doctor should have given you a blood pregnancy test, those are more reliable. There could be a number of reasons the doctor's test came up negative, maybe your hcg levels are low. Definitely assume that you are. Wait about 2 or 3 days and re-test.

Usually you hear that ANY positive means a positive. It is very very rare to get a false positive. Perhaps the clearblue tests are more sensitive than the cheap doctors ones.... How far along do you think you might be? Suggest waiting another week or so and then take a new clearblue test and do it actually at the docs. Also make sure you get a date for the blood test.

Congratulations! False positives are pretty rare and usually only occur if you have recently miscarried (probably not your case if the line is getting darker for you). Treat yourself as if you are pregnant, take your prenatal vitamin etc and re-test in 2-5 days. When that one comes back positive call your doctor back and requests a blood test.

The only thing that I could think is that they urinee that you used at the doctor may have been done in the afternoon. Where the urin you are using with EPT is the morning. I would say that you are. Or maybe the got the urine test mixed up with some one else's?

I took several hpt's and they were all positive, but when I went to the clinic to have it confirmed the girl said it was negative but when I looked at the test I could see a faint line. So she called in another nurse and that nurse said she could see it also. So if you got a definate positive just wait and go back to the doctor in a week. I am six weeks pregnant now.
