Not a good ideal, that's how a lot of low income families buy Christmas for their kids.

I agree with KK. I have only used walmarts lay away program 1 time, and that was because I got a bunch of Christmas presents early for the kids and didn't have a place designated to hide them yet. I do know several people that use the layaway tho, and I think it is going to hurt them during the Holiday season. I have a friend that has worked at walmart for years and she says that alot of Walmarts business during the holiday season is thru layaway and she thinks Walmart is making a very bad choice. I think Walmart has changed for the bad since the founder passed away.

Layaway has become a very marginal service due to the wide availability of credit cards. The cost to operate that has been passed on to other shoppers because it no longer paid for itself. Walmart is probably wise to eliminate a service that just adds expense.

I think it stinks, I use the layaway , and have never had any problems on my part. Tho the people who work at wal mart need to be checked into. I think wal mart are tending to be on the more high class side it seems, they keep changing and its not all that good. I drive to another town because of wal mart here sucks, i have to pay more but i get what i want from friendly people.

I think this is directly related to the illegal immigration issue. It's just a good business decision. Who would want to take out of inventory 12+Million items with the prospect of minimum weekly payments made. The cost to the company would be mind boggling. They made the right decision. Let the illegals get credit elswhere or pay up in full cash (no pesos).

Who can blame WalMart. The clientele that they attract Will probably be in jail before they can claim their layaway.

It is a matter of economics, who can pay for what and when. Walmart must believe they don't need the program any longer. Only the customers/shareholders will decide if their decision was correct. Give it a year or two. Watch their ads and decide for yourself, if you (a customer or a shareholder) support their decision. We always have another choice, right?

I have only used it twice in my whole life, so I could care less. But I know a huge margin of WalMart's clientele will be PI$$ED OFF!

I think it will hurt a lot of people that doesn't have credit cards and can't pay the full price for merchandise that they might need especially at Christmas time.
