I have Norton anti-virus & if I ever try to download a corrupted file, it tells me immediately & deletes it. It's really rare that I download one of those though. Of course, Limewire's not completely safe no matter what you do, but it's definitely better than Kazaa or similar websites.

First, I would recommend Frostwire over Limewire, for a number of reasons: http://www.frostwire.com/?module=about
And if you're only downloading legitimate MP3 files, and nothing in a ZIP/RAR archive or anything that is executable, you're safe. Be especially careful not to download anything that's a suspiciously small ZIP file (under 500 kB), as that's a clear warning of a virus

I use it all the time. Just watch any file that has a exe attachment i have downloaded movies and tried to open them only to be sent to porn sites and such. Use with caution. Music is pretty safe but i would not try program files or things of that nature.

If you install Avast! anti virus it has a P2P (peer to peer) scanner to check the files you download, it will break the connection of there is a virus. It also picks up some trojans.
You need to set you Windows to show file extensions, and check those before you download. A music file should read music.mp3; not music.mp3.exe.
It will slow down your pc and internet connection, I'd suggest a gig of RAM minimum.

Limewire itself opens a share on your computer. This can be unsafe. Also the files can be viruses named as a favorit song so you have to be careful what you download. There are lots of things to beware of downloading from P2P programs.

sometimes the police invetigate it and see who been downlaoding and uploading aload so watch out for the time they investigate I dont use it but now about this so i couldnt tell you how to find out. also when you use limewire as part of your account thing you have to be careful that ALL information from your computer while you use limewire is being shown over the internet even things like bank statements so you do have to be careful of what access people have into your computer there is away of stopping this but as i said earlier I dont use it and go by what my friends have told me about it so i dont know ho you block uploading things into limewire but there is away. Everyone above said bout bugs and viruses but its not just them you got be careful about.

It's safe to downlown onto your computer, and for the most part, it's safe when downloading files (however, you could download a piece of malware onto your computer, if it was labeled as a song)
It is however, technically illegal to download music off the internet, but I haven't been arrested yet :)

I'm going to assume you mean Limewire, and no it's not. Because it's a community P2P application, virtually anybody can upload whatever they want. What people often do is write a Trojan or Virus / Spyware and name the file something like "Lord of the Rings 2.rar.exe". When you download that file and run it, it installs illegitimate software.

My three sons use it and we have had viruses from it since we went broadband. but found as long you do not keep it OPEN to long, so to speak, it's okay.
the thing with B/B is that it gives you quicker access, but the dreaded virus gets in quicker to.
Like leaving a back door open for a burglar, if you get my meaning.
