Simply put, spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal column, which can cause pressure on the spinal cord, resulting in pain, numbness, etc. It often follows an injury, and is also a symptom of natural degeneration of the spine which occurs with age (arthritic changes, etc.) Here is more detailed information.

TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR!!!

Spinal stenosis is a medical condition where the spinal canal narrows and compresses the spinal cord and nerves. This is usually due to the natural process of spinal degeneration that occurs with aging. It can also sometimes be caused by spinal disc herniation or a tumour. Spinal stenosis may affect the cervical spine, the lumbar spine or both. Lumbar spinal stenosis results in low back pain as well as pain or abnormal sensations in the legs.

Spinal stenosis is very painful & it sounds like you have been thru a lot already...
Stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal, You did not state if the doc that ordered this was your primary care doctor or a specialist, but you will probably need to see a neurologist or an orthopedist. (I am a chiropractor & I refer these cases to one or the other when I get this type of a report back... obviously I have not seen your MRI or your report, so I can't diagnose you over the net...)

I would like to refer you to this website... it's a great patient education site & hopefully can answer a lot of your questions.

I send a lot of my patients to look up conditions here, it shows the anatomy, talks about treatment etc...
good luck.

I could do this but you need to call your doctor back and speak directly to her. All your questions need to be directed to your physician. I cannot stress this too much.

If you solicit info from this forum, you may get misinformation, misleading information or alarmist information. If you go to websites that people give you, you will get information but it may require the appropriate interpretation that only a medical professional can give you.

Your doctor knows exactly what the report says and the degree of stenosis. She also knows your complete medical history, something you can't include here, although you did a good job. She can answer your questions and put your fears to rest.
