what kind of a gift do you give to a blind person?

Question

i have a blind aunt that lives in india and i'll be visiting her soon. what kind of a gift besides clothes would you suggest i give to her? its so hard to think of something that would be special to her. i wanted to give her something that appeals to her other intact senses so i gave her perfume once. but now i can't think of anything.

clothes are boring (she doesn't really even go out that much). and she doesn't listen to american/english music.

i'd really appreciate any good advice/suggestions.

What about scented candles?

Or wind chimes?

Or a variety of candy and treats she can eat or share with her friends? American candy and treats. Sees candy from California, dried cherries from Michigan, peaches from Georgia, Whisky from Tennessee....

Or a very soft lap blanket or robe.

I have included some websites that have many options for gifts. Her age, the level of blindness and her self-efficiency will help you decide what to get her. Do you know what she likes? Hobbies? Is she computer savvy? There are many sites for computer software, keyboards and mouses, magnifiers etc for this available. Anyone you know in India or here that knows what she needs? Or assists her?

American Foundation for the Blind www.afb.org is a good site for information to better understand her needs.

Serious answer, a shortwave radio. You can get a fairly good portable quite inexpensively. As she lives in India, government and/or commercial stations (equivalent to AM/FM in the U.S.) there probably broadcast on short wave. She would also be able to receive stations from all over the world.

Buy a wheel chair for her;if not so buy a nice sticks for her so if she try to walk herself with the support of stick she can move herself.Take her to Sankara Eye center in Chennai or your nearest center.If some one in your circle dye or about to die request them for a Eye Donation.The Sankara offers a free vison treatment.Be with her for some time and let she feels that you are with her,just give her love as much as you can give her.

if she reads in brail, get her a book. OR you can find music from her country online and oder her some new tunes.

I think a nice sculpture with nice texture, like made out of glass or marble with very intricate details so that she can feel all of them. A beautifully carved cane, walking stick.

well if i was you i would tell her how i feel about her and to tell her that will always be here for her.nevertheless you can tell her that you really appreciate her for whats she doing in her life right now.give her some candles so that she can smell it when you go vistiing her when she smells it she will be thinking of you.she maybe blind but she's not dum???

I would suggest a stack of 50 one dollar bills. Then when she opens it up you tell her they're 100 dollar bills. She'll be happy...but still have no vision of any kind whatsoever.
