My mom. She made great apple pies and swore like a truck driver.

What a broad canvas I have been able to paint in profanity. I believe the first small ones were used around the house, you know the ones mom used when she messed up. Then in high school I start to learn to string them together to make a more impressive verbal combatant. But I truly was taught it as an art form when I went fishing in Canada with my father and my uncle. My uncle was a Chicago police officer but he was really more of a longshoreman with turrets. He was a true artist not a "modern paint throwing artist". He was a pleasure to hear when someone was thinking that they were above anyone else. Wish I could have you heard him in his prime it was poetic.

I thought I had pretty much received a Masters degree level course in profanity in high school. Didn't think I could learn much more after that. Then I entered the military and got my doctorate.

A little japanese-american girl with long dark hair down below her waist. Her name was Rita and we were 6 years old on the monkey bars of our elementary school's playground. She had a little poem that spouted off every single profane word in the book in just under a minute. I was quite impressed. My mother was not!

If you think of profanity as a fine art then you need to re-visit school and learn what fine art is...and the TV if you must know.

I learned the really good ones from other kids... I was in college and had no idea what "the c word" was! I learned the f-word in first grade by singing "fankee foodle fent foo fown fiding fon a fony..." and getting in trouble for it. In 9th grade, I had a friend who thought it would be terribly funny to name twins Twit & ****. She got in trouble for that and that's how I learned about that one.

My Wife was instrumental in creating a callous attitude toward swearing. The Baby was in the crib when she once exclaimed "g-d MF 'b-word'!" [explicative abbreviated].
Prior influence was my father whose worse word was "damn" when I was 15.
Tar nation and sassenfrassen are my two favorites. So my influence most was Yosemite Sam.
