HI,
I've had horses since I was a child and find the best things to give them are good old apples and carrotts! They're healthy and natural, some horses also love Turnip too and you can bore a hole in a large turnip with a screwdriver then thread a long strong bit of string or rope through it and knot several times at the bottom, then hang your turnip somewhere in the horses stable when he is in for longer periods of time for him to chew on! Ideally hang it so it can swing as then he'l spend ages trying to bite a bit off! Keeps the boredom to a minimum and healthy treat!

My horse and several others on the yard also love pears! Try giving your horse a pear cut up the same as you would do an apple in his feed bet he eats it all first!

Polo's and mints are always an option though do more damage to the horses teeth than the other things mentioned as they contain lots of sugar.

You can buy bags of horse treats also from your local feed shop, apple, mint flavour etc. Or try putting a flavoured salt lick in his stable, he will get the minerals he needs from licking it too!

In Feeds most horses like a bit of soaked beet pulp also as its highly palatable and moistens the whole feed. For fussy eaters try buying some liquid molasses from your feed supplier and stir a blob into his feed, horses love the taste of molasses.

Hope this was helpful! From a Horse owner and rider.

Be careful offering sugar and mints as treats. They are bad for their teeth and too much sugar (obviously with the sugar cubes). Tack shops and feed stores sell horse treats and they usually have some type of nutritional value. I buy the peppermint horse treats and my guys LOVE them. I also get apple flavored but pepermint is their favorite. I occasionally give them carrots or apples, just remember to cut the apple into pieces or break the carrots up into chunks they can handle. I actually saw a horse choke on a whole carrot, how sad.

Small children's fingers, and dog's tails! LOL, just kidding,(no I'm not, BE CAREFUL when hand feeding your horse, always place treats in the flat palm of your hand, keep your fingers straight, and close together. My Son learned that the hard way, after numerous reminders!)

I actually have a horse that won't touch a carrot, and another that won't touch apples. I get peppermint treats from my tack store, and they all like those, they're mostly a grain pellet, with some peppermint oil in them. You can also "google" homemade horse treat recipes, and make your own!
Sugar cubes are fine, but just as with kids, too much sugar is unhealthy. The best treat is a thorough grooming, with lots of massaging and bonding time!
Have fun, watch your fingers, and be careful.

they make many flavors of horse treats mine like the apple or carrot ones the best.
One of mine does not like pepermint ones at all and will spitthem out.
Mine also loke strawberries and the mare likes bananas. They will try most things. Mine get horses treats most of the time for a treat as they have vitamins and such in them so they are good for them.

Here is a list of treats you can try on your horse.

I would not give my horses candy or any type of highly sugary substance because of the fact that over time the horses teeth will rot and get cavities like people.

Praise is better! Treats could encourage nipping and ripping of pockets.

Apples and carrots added to their feed or the occasional dollop of molasses cant do any harm and avoids the above.

Strongly suggest though you learn a little more about equine nutrition. Go to your local library or use the net.
