So many Ethnic women wear blue contact lenses and dye thier hair blonde, especially Asian women. What is wrong with Asian colour hair? Our hair is menat to be dark, it is not meant to be blonde and our eyes are meant to be dark. It's OK to dye hair a few shades lighter to compliment skin but why choose a hair colour that conforms to the blonde hair blue eyes white ideal?
So many young Asian girls where I live have blonde hair, blue contact lenses and they powder their face to look whiter. What kind of message does this convey? Is something wrong with tan skin, dark hair and eyes? Are black and Asian people not good looking?
So many white people want tan skin but how many of them try to look like Asians?
I just went on the Yahoo Answers website for India and everyone is asking how to be fairer. It's embarrassing. All their TV actresses pile on make up to look whiter and try to change their appearance to look like white women. So turns out black is not so beautiful after all.

I didn't say Black isn't beautiful! I said turns out that although the media have tried drilling it into our heads from one angle people obviously still don't believe it.
As for preference: It's OK to change hairstyles etc and even change colour, nothing wrong with women wearing grey contact lenses, that can look natural but what I said was there were many girls I have seen in my college who dye their hair blonde, powder their skin white and wear blue lenses, if they only wore lenses once or twice with different outfits thats Ok but its not white people who have been told they are ugly. For centuries black and Asian people have been made to feel inferior so why have they now accepted that white is right after all?
I am not trying to go NATURAL, what does that mean? I am me. I was born with some shade of brown hair, brown eyes, light tan skin, my skin isn't white, it isn't black. That was the way it was meant to be. It's OK to change your appearance but there has to be a limit.

Peopel who have answered that it is a fashion phase like the same reason that white women want a tan don't know anything about Asian (Indian sub-continent) culture. I have experienced it being around so many people from these countries. Only another Asian person would notice that it is deeper than that because Black and British White people will not know much about Asians as I would. Also I have heard many black women such as Tyra Banks say that even black people amongst themselves think that the lighter skinned black people are better looking and superior to those darker than them (obviously not all but many do) She said this on America's Next Top Model after a black girl was upset at having to photogragh as Grace Jones.

That's just the way society tells us to be. I'm not saying that's right but it is what it is. And about the girls asking to be fairer; that's the message these girls get from people around there. Society tells them that fair skin is better, lighter eyes and blond hair is the epitome of beauty and that's what they want.
It is not only Black, Asian or Indian women that do this.
White people also try to change themselves because they feel tan skin is better than being pale. That's why people go tanning. That's why they change their hair colors, or their eye colors.
So it's not just Eastern women. It's every woman from every part of this world, that feels that they need to follow a specific idea of what beauty is. And that includes white woman, black woman, asian woman, etc.

Well I don't dye my hair blonde. Its medium brown and I dye it jet black. Ocassionally I wear grey contacts. They kind of change colors depending on what I am wearing (the 3 colors in one kind) and the way the light hits it. I am not trying to be something I'm not it just looks really good with my complexion. I agree a lot of women wear hair colors and colored contact lenses that do not look good on them; however they have yet to come into their own. Black is beautiful and so is every other color in the vast rainbow of humanity. Maybe the women you speak of do in fact have a complex of some form, I don't see what that has to do with you. If you feel that you going completely natural is the thing then by all means go for it. A good example is the best sermon!!!

Well, I think you are not being to fair in asking your questions about a group of people. If you ask me, I believe there are many women in society from different backgrounds that try to do different things like other races. Prime example, white women get tans. Why? Why try to darken your skin if you don't want to be black or whatever color. Some women (mostly white) get lip jobs to have full lips like black women. So don't go there with the "why black women want to be white" questions because I have seen ALL women from black, white, chinese, asian etc. do things that make me say Mmmm. They all need to love themselves and be thankful for what they have.

Just look on T.V. and you'll see the same thing. Is there a black woman who doesn't have stick straight Pamela Anderson blond hair (imagine if 90% of white/asian/latina women were walking around with black afros engineered by chemicals, what a sight that would be!! lol). In addition black women bleach their skin with chemicals (unlike tanning a natural process to get a golden glow), wear colored contacts, 90% straighten their hair (an epidemic) and the celebrities get nose jobs to narrow their noses or use makeup contouring to give the illusion of a narrower nose (see Beyonce). As far as white women wanting to look ethnic, which was just previously mentioned, very few white women get those procedures (fewer than 1%) and Charlize Theron (the "whitest" of the white is still the considered the standard of beauty for white women), while a mixed race woman (Halle Berry, Alicia Keys, etc.) is for black women. As far as asian women wanting to look white, have never noticed this at all.

I don't know because I am black and Love my color because I am carmel colored. They may not feel comfortable with themselves so they do this. It certaintly does not show a nice message to other races of people or younger generations. There isn't anything wrong with color. I have the same dark eyes and Dark hair and you can find many other thing to do and some which is alot better than people with blond hair/ blue eyes. I completly agree with all your saying and support you 100%. keep your sayings and maybe the message will get thorugh to them that you Have to like yourslef no matter how you look!

It's a fashion phase. Some women like to change their appearance. If it make them feel confident, then I say go for it...It takes a pretty tought exterior to ignore all the overt look from others.
I don't think the above mentioned Asian women want to look white, they just want to look different, it's only recently that Asian girls can express themselves individually without having their parents wrath brought upon them.
Same can be said for white women, who may own a kimono or a high collar satin top with asian symbols or design. Fashion phase.

I dont know but i worked with an cambodian girl and she said that people in their country dont like their skin color. Which i think it is pretty. For some reason they like white skin, which i guess i'll never understand. With so many white people wanting tan skin, i dont think they want to necessarily want to be like white people. It's just a preference. But for the record, i love my skin tone.

I have no idea. I personally have the blue eyes, blond hair, fair skin thing naturally, but I wish I didn't. I would kill to have asian features and hair & skin color. I hate having fair skin because I always burn in the sun, and can never have a tan. I think that asian and black people are some of the only women who can truly look beautiful without looking like a hooker - not the case for white women. I think that people should just be who they are.

This reminds me of a conversation I just had with someone, it's either your buying bleaching cream or sun tan lotion but yet and still one race think they're better than the other. Come on people, get it together, we're all the same inside.

in india beauty is associated with being light and bollywood actresses add to that plight take for instance miss world aishwarya rai..also marrying a fair girl is not so much of a social stigma than being married to a dark skinned is ...however dark is beautiful too just the men in india dont seem to see it that way
