Because the only blacks that have tried to run so far (Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton) were grossly unqualified.

1) Blacks only represent about 20% of our population.
2) It was only 40 years ago that blacks really gained equality with whites, thanks to Dr. King and the Civil Rights movement.
3) It's taken blacks some time to recover from two centuries of oppression and marginalization and make the ecomonic and educational gains needed to be a serious contender for the office.
4) Most blacks who have run for the office have been fringe candidates.
5) Momentum is building and I think you'll see a minority Pres or VP within the next 20 years. Condi Rice, Colin Powell, and Barrak Obama seem to be on the inside track for the conservative, moderate, and liberal ends of the spectrum.

The answer is simple. Black people do not want to stand behind a black person who is well educated, speaks properly, and acts like a responsible member of society. If a black person does do these things they are labled a sell-out or Uncle Tom, prime examples are Colin Powell and Condelezza Rice. These 2 are prime example of people not getting the respect they rightfully deserve, Allen Keys is another. They are out there it's just that the black community won't support them

None of the American Presidents have been black because white america would never vote a black person into office. They claim it's because there aren't enough qualified black people to run for office, but hell, they voted for Bush. I can think of 20 black people who are better qualified than him off the top of my head.
Besides, most black people would know better than to walk into an office where they would most likely be assassinated.

The Black Civil Rights Movement ended in the sixties. But prejudice didnt end then. And I think it is still going personally. I think that where we are at now in the world, a black president could be socially accepted. So could a woman president. It is just up to America wether or not they are willing to go through that change.

When the only blacks who run are Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson what do you expect! I'm sure if you could find a black Republican with some name recognition you'd see one. It is bond to happen within the next 20-30 years if not sooner.

its amazing how stupid the people in the other states are. if you had ever paid attention in school you would know that there ca't be any russian candidate because a presidential candidate has to be a born citizen of the united states. There hasn't been a black president because not even black people will vote for a black person because all of their candidates are stupid and racist.

When are they going to run? There hasn't been a woman president either.. and one hasn't run... so you can't blame racism or sexism... If people start trying to run more power to them
