I am a male. my girlfriend thought she had a yeast infection. we both did yeast cleanses. But it turns out she had BV. Doc's say it doesnt occur in men, but I have a red rash, that is itchy. it has cleared up in about two days but it has happened a few time. could this be caused by the infected vaginal fluids.

yes it could be a transferred infection; go see your Dr. He will probably give you a cream and some antibiotics to clear it up, oh and sorry, but NO sex until its cleared up for both of you otherwise you could keep passing it back and forth.

BV is believed to be more an imbalace in the natural flora (germs) of the vagina than a true infection.
Contrary to some answers you have recieved, it appears unlikely that your condition is BV. It could still be another STD you picked up from a partner. You should be evaluated by a physicain. It could even be an allergic rash to new underwear, latex condoms...new detergent etc.
Also someone mentioned bacterial shedding after 'yeast' infection.... yeast is caused by a fungus ...usually candida albicans or a cousin of that germ... it is not bacterial.

GO SEE A DOCTOR.
I'm serious. I almost lost my uterus to a BV infection.
I dunno if you are male or female from your post, however males can catch BV as well, so if you are male, chances are you have caught it from your partner. It is very important that both of you are treated immediately, and abstain from sex (or use a condom) until both of you are through the antibiotics. Unfortunately, BV is often asymptomatic in males, so men who unknowingly have it will keep on passing it to their partner after she's recovered from her last infection.
Your partner can help raise the acidity of the vagina by a few different means (but none of these are in ANY way to replace antibiotic treatment), to help speed recovery (beneficial bacteria love acidic vaginas, most dangerous bacteria prefer basic):
- Boric acid (make sure it's 100% boric acid, and not cut with any other chemicals) loaded into capsules, inserted vaginally every night for a week.
- Eat a lot of dairy- lactic acid makes the vagina more acidic.
After completing the antibiotics, it is important to insert acidopholis pills (or apply plain, unsweetened yogurt to the exterior of the vagina & wear a pad) to repopulate the vagina with healthy flora- an unoccupied vagina invites in yeast, bad bacteria, etc. It is important to keep those little acidopholises happy and healthy! Acidopholis is the primary resident of vagina, it's a beneficial bacteria that raises ph and eats yeast before they have a chance to invade.
Also, taking acidopholis pills a few hours after your antibiotics will repopulate your intestines, and prevent the stomach ache from antibiotics.
Both of you should also supplement your antibiotics with immune boosting herbs, such as raw garlic (antibacteria/antiviral, and immune support- take 1-3 times a day) or garlic pills, echinacea (immune support), and ginger (raises body temp, watch how much you take- stop if your temperature goes up. The ginger will also help with nausea from the antibiotics)

It sounds pretty normal. But with a yeast infection you should not have sex for at least a week and a half after its cleared up. The reason is b/c even after its gone you can still get it but you wont have any symptoms. The bacteria is still there on you and she will keep on getting yeast infections. Good Luck

Yes it can - but why is this in the men's health section?
You need anti-biotics to cure it.
