The best Internet Security Suite on the market today is not a free one, but it is worth every penny. It is called Panda and will keep your system clean as a whistle even safe from you if you try to download and install malware disguised as something fun like ring tones, music, Smily Central is a good example of spyware program disguised as a fun application.

If you only want free stuff there is a few decent programs but non are as good as Panda. However, if you can't afford to spend money go ahead and follow some of the links provided by others here. Just be sure to check and make sure it updates daily, not weekly or monthly. Daily updates are critical and any good program will provide this. AVG is a good program and coupled with Zone Alarm makes it better yet. It is still not as good as Panda but it will keep you safer than many others. Just read all the reviews if any are available and read what each one provides before making your decision.

If you follow standard safety usage of the web, not opening attachments without first scanning them, not opening any attachments from unknown or not expected sources, not downloading free ringtones or other free software unless from a reputable source such as Yahoo! MSN, CNET, Microsoft, etc. you should be fine. Also, be careful with the free toolbars, as many of them cause repeated crashes of IE. The Goggle and Yahoo! and MSN toolbars ALL crash my browser.

Good luck and I hope you have a nice day.

The best one that I have found is Zone Alarm - you can find it at: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp?dc=12bms&ctry=US&lang=en&lid=nav_za

This said if you are running windows XP it has a built in firewall. I have used this for the past 5+ years and think the free version does a fine job. - JEE
