This spell checker sucks hamster. Many times it does not even recognize the word I'm looking for no matter how many ways I spell (or misspell) it. It does not recognize common internet abbreviations as simple as "lol". Sometimes it doesn't work at all because it is broken at the time. There have also been times when it has locked up and I have to sit and watch the little wheely-arrow spin for ten minutes over one sentence and if I try to exit out it freezes the computer. It does not check for grammatical errors so when I type "an" instead of "and" it does not recognize it. Basically it is pretty useless. I just try to pay attention to what I'm typing and skip the checker.

They don't want to cheat and make it seem that they are less retarded than they are. In a way, it's a kind of integrity test. Plus, anyone can use a spell checker. It takes some balls to let your ignorance hang out where everyone can see it. Finally, people who can't spell a two or three letter word are attracted to others who have the same limitations. I bet there are lots of love stories hidden in those misspelled words.

because we expect people to get the basic message regardless of whether we have mis-spelled something.
it would be pointless to waste my time and effort using the spell checker every time just so people who are obsessive about spelling can feel that everything is correct. so long as the message is not important and you can still make sense of it..... why bother? think of it as energy efficiency.

People are in too much of a hurry. Plus, why is correct spelling so desired anyway--as long as people get their point across to others?

Because half the time we forget it's there and the other half of the time we just plain cannot be bothered and are eager just to get a reply to our questions!!

Good question. It takes so little effort, why more contributors don't use it and add to their credibility beats me

Because we are not being graded for this. It doesn't really matter to me if I misspell a few words.
