i am sure they also bit their nails, used knives, and also used stones and other similarly rough surfaces to file their nails. you never know, various groups may have also had their own versions on nail clippers that we are unaware of. they may have also allowed their nails to grow longer than most people do today. slaves and manual workers probably never even needed to file their nails, as their work took care of that for them.

Good question and the answer is that they mostly never cut their nails.Many people use to cut the nails by hand knifes and baiting them, but it was to much work for them so many did not cut their nails.Those people were grate fighters but also disgusting people, they only took a bath one day per month and the soldiers were even more disgusting that any other person and not to mention bat odor smell.

I bet they wanted to keep their nails long to use as a tool. They could have filed them down on stones I suppose.
