We do not have any say so in who controls Palestine, but last I heard Hamas was the ruling party. I suppose your real question is why do we not support Hamas financially. The answer is that we do not support terrorists regardless of the way they came to power. Our love for democracy does not extend to people that would like to kill us, we generally consider those people enemies.

Because Hamas is a joke?
I say give Palestine a state and redraw Israel's borders at the 1967 lines. Maybe then, the ridiculous killings would win.

In order for This Government to be considered a Democracy, it would have to admit that Israel has a right to exist and acknowledge Israel as a country , Hamas refuses to do either and therefore are considered hostile....

They are in control. The problem is that the ignorant violent palestanians don't know how to live in democracy. They are all trying to kill each other just to take over and turn it back into a terrorist run state. Why are you asking americans this question anyway. Why do you come to us for the answers. Why not ask the French, or germans, or russians, etc.

They are in control,we just choose not to endorse them or send them our money. Prior to the election of Hamas we sent millions in aid to the Palestinian people, money it seems they spent recruiting suicide bombers to murder innocent women and children. We now choose to not send them money because we choose not to support terrorist organizations, why are we required in the eyes of some to support those who openly advocate the murder of innocent people? Are you required to agree with those elected over you? No,if you disagree you are allowed to do everything in your power to remove them, like not funding them and their reelection bid. That is all we are doing. Amazing that all they have to do to gain US support is to openly renounce and reject the murder of other human beings, and somehow that's too much to ask.

the govt doesn't love democracy. (don't forget bush got fewer votes than Gore)
(1) they support Saudi Arabia - a monarchy where women aren't allowed to drive
(2) they support Israel, which has votes but only limited rights for the israeli Arabs as well as a racist, expansionist foreign policy.
democracy isn't important to the US, "friendship" is.

Ideally the USA would be an advocate of peace and not any side in that area.
