Generally the metals are on the left and the nonmetals are on the right. To be more specific there is a zig-zag line running under Boron, beside Aluminum, under Silicon, beside Germanium, and so on, that separate the metals from non-metals. The elements touching that zig-zag line are classified as metalloids with the exception of aluminum that by position should be a metalloid but that has all metallic properties.
