I'm soon to be having a baby but also thinking about making diaper cakes for friends, etc. I can get the nicer brands in bulk but I was wondering if a mom would prefer receiving luvs or pampers diapers. I can get 224 (size 1) Luvs diapers for $31.99 or 228 (size 1) Papmers diapers for $36.99. Also, I've never shopped for them- is this a bargain? Thanks so much!

We tried every brand for my daughter and mostly stuck with huggies and pampers - they work the same and we just picked the cuter design. However, I did make a diaper cake for two baby showers before. I bought smaller packs - the 1st layer was size 1, the second layer was size 2, and the third layer was size 3, to give a variety of sizes since most babies don't stay in once diaper size for very long, especially if the baby is a chubby one. Mine looked like a real 3 layer cake made of diapers. To hold each layer together I put ribbon around it. For one, they wouldn't tell what the baby was going to be, so I used yellow ribbon. The other was going to be a boy, so I used blue ribbon. To keep it all on a base, i used one of those round silver foil trays you can buy in packs of 2 at Wal-Mart. I made each layer separate and it got just a little smaller with each of the two layers on top so that it was a tiered diaper cake. I, too, wasn't sure which kind of diapers they would prefer because every mother is different. So, I bough size 1 Luvs, size 2 Pampers, and size 3 Huggies - that way I didn't waste my money on something that wasn't going to get used- if one kind didn't work, then the entire cake wasn't a bust. At the top, I put a bottle in the center of the top layer with a ribbon on it. Mine really looked good but took some brainstorming and creativity. Good Luck.

I have an 8 month old son and I use Pampers. I've found that the Luvs diapers don't stretch at all, and they leak, A LOT. I love Pampers, especially the Swaddlers in smaller sizes. I'd say that 228 Pampers for $36.99 is a good deal, but if you're getting them for a new mom you might want to buy newborn size instead of size ones. Good Luck, hope I helped!

Pampers are perceived to be the better diaper, however, I have tried both and really see no difference. I would take Pampers over Luvs though at night! The only big difference that I saw was the price of the diapers and the amount that you get in a case. Other than that, they pretty much do the same. Huggies are another great brand for which i use a lot!

**Hint for moms who send diapers to daycare- send the store brand diapers to daycare and use the more expensive ones at home (unless allergic). The children are changed alot more in daycare due to rules and regulations and you run thruogh them quicker. The idapers themselves, unless left on a soiled chiled, dont have a chance to wear out. You save money in the long run!!** you can get like 80 for 10 bucks or less in most circumstances (try walmart even- White cloud is inexpensive but decent quality!)

Between the two, I've only used Luvs, and they were fine. But if you are giving them as gifts, I would splurge for the Pampers if you can, a lot of people seem to like those. I use Huggies now, that's the kind I also received at my baby shower.

As for the cost, check Walmart and compare. If the bulk you are getting somewhere else is cheaper than Walmart, it's a bargain. But I know sometimes even though you buy in bulk, it's not always cheaper. It could be the same. Just look at the price on the left hand side of the price on the shelf, where it says a certain price per a certain amount. Compare that between places.

I have had three children I used Pampers- I tried Luvs-and hated them. They don't hold as much urine and they fit awkwardly. I figured that if I have to change a luvs diaper every two hours, how could they cost me less than Pampers, when I didn't have to change it near as often? I used more of the Luvs diapers in a day than I did Pampers, so I figured that justified the extra money for a pack of Pampers.
Pampers are so very soft, hold much more, and fit to a tee.
It's all personal choice though. I wouldn't even consider store brands, but that's me.
For newborns, I can tell you that there are NONE out there that beat Pampers Swaddlers. They are wonderful.

I like pampers, but you sometimes have to get what you can afford. They are all about the same, some like huggies, others Pampers, still others like luvs. A new Mom, with everything she has to adjust to, would be glad to get anything, as long as she does not have to load the car with all the baby things just to run to the store! LOL Maybe you should buy a smaller package, and try them all out. Some diaper websites may even have a sample you could get. I think it depends upon what works best for your child. Plus, if you stick with one brand, and oops, run out and your store does not have your child's size at the time, you may be forced to try another brand (this happened to me and my neighbor).
If my math is correct, the luvs are the better buy, for $5 more you get 4 diapers, sounds expensive to me (but I could be wrong).

Out of those 2, I would choose Pampers. I tried Luvs with my first son, and something about them made him break out in a HORRIBLE rash. Those prices are pretty good too. But, I believe Pampers are the ones that have the newborn diapers with the little slot cut out in the front for the umbilical cord, which comes in handy. So my vote goes for Pampers.

If I were you I would stay away from both brands, because they have perfumes and alcohol in them, which might cause diaper rash. Did you also know that Luvs and Pampers are made by the same company. I haven't tried this service myself yet, but go to www.1800diapers.com. They have good deals on diapers on there. I use Huggies or the ToysRUs brand of diapers for my son.

To be honest, I've tried them all, but I really prefer the target brand. The tabs stay closed, but open easily to check for messes, we've never had a leak in them (and my baby poops about once every 3 days...a whole mess of it), and my baby has never had diaper rash (she's 3mo,1wk old). They work the best for us; the only problem is finding size 1 in bulk...a lot of times, there's only one or two packages left...it's ten dollars and change for 112 diapers here.
The price for the Luvs sounds like a bargain for that number of diapers if you're dead set on a namebrand, but before you commit, I suggest buyingsmaller packs of a variety of brands, including store brands and the different lines of name brands. Some people swear by one brand that is horrible for another person and vice versa. Find the one that works for you and your baby, then commit. It might be a little more expensive, but, then again, if you buy Brand A in bulk and discover you hate it, all that money's out the window. Explore your options.

I always used pampers and had good luck. If stock piling diapers...don't by too many in size one. They grow out of those awfully fast. I would stock pile diapers in size and definately 3.

Like some of your answers it depends on the kids. My first wore only pampers. Anything else and he would leak. With my second I bought either Pampers or Luvs. HATED HUGGIES!!! Always leaked. As he got older I got some of the cheaper brands and they worked fine. Just all depends on what the both of you are comfortable with.
