"Grassroots" are the little guys at the bottom who vote in the big guys. GRASS-ROOTS as not even above the surface of the pitch. geddit?

Grass is grown from seeds, you choose seed that produces the type of grass you want, because you believe it to be the most suitable. A political party is started by like minded people, who shape the party to the way they want it to be. They are the roots of the party.Other party members who follow in their footsteps adhering to their original ideas are what is known as `grass roots` members.
