ive been getting really into this lately. the whole ed grien thing. i read that the story was based on a true story. that his name was ed grien, and he really did go on a massive killing spree. but im not too sure. i really wanna know. so if you have any info on it, tell me ok? um, this is a website where i got some info from http://austin.about.com/od/filmindustry/f/thomas_hewitt.htm

Ed Gein was the inspiration, but he didn't exactly go on a killing spree. I know he killed at least one person, maybe a couple more, but not enough to constitute a "spree." He also dug up bodies from the graveyard. Something of a transvetite as well, only it wasn't womens clothes he wore...but their skin. Here are some links to give you a bit more info. Also, he was the inspration for Norman Bates in Psycho and Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs.
