I agree. We learned the hard way that we can elect a president who doesn't even get a majority of the vote, thanks to the electoral college. We started out with that because it was easier than figuring up a nation-wide majority. With the technology we have now, though, it shouldn't be a problem. The problem is getting the Constitution amended--it has to get a 2/3 majority in the Senate, and pass in 2/3 (I think) of all 50 states. That's a lot when you're trying to overcome a 2 century old tradition.

I get what you're saying but we'll have to keep more than the Bill of Rights (the first 10 amendments to the Constitution).

Other amendments define important rights such as the right for women and minorities to vote.

Ok, lets have a Constitutional Convention. I wonder who will be there? Bushes? Clintons? Roves? Kennedys?

What if people change their minds after a year or so?

do you stop everything and run a new election for every issue?

how do you propose that anything would ever get done?

Better to let the system correct itself ever four years or so. Americans are the most free people in the world. Bask in that for a while.

As far as the laws needing to be simple, the world is not simple, it takes more than grade three to cope.

If anything, your freedom is too much. Your freedom is at risk from litigious types who would award multi million dollar settlements to idiots that are not aware that coffee can be hot if poured on a lap!

You will learn more as you grow older.

Let me open by saying that I am no supporter of this current administration. However, do you realize how impractical your suggestion may be?

First, it will amount to HUGE special interest politics. Think about it - a law to give additional tax breaks to Hispanics would drive Hispanics to show up at the polls. This would apply to every case.

Second, you exclude people that are unable to make it to the polls - poor people without transportation, the sick, the elderly, etc.

Third, you could never get anything accomplished because you would have to vote for EVERY issue.

That's why we have a representative democracy, even though it is currently failing us.

Sounds good in theory but a true democracy is totally impractical. When you have to go to the populace and explain every single issue being decided and then put it to a vote, nothing would get done. Not to mention, the majority would still not rule, because Americans barely turn out for a presidential election let alone to vote on various mundane issues of government. We'd have the government activists and voters paid for their vote deciding our rules of law.

Yeah, I'm going to take advice from a guy who can't even spell properly.

Majority rule or "mob rule" only means that society's prejudices can be law. Do you know how many people would outlaw inter-racial marriage? Or dog-ownership? Or driving? Come on, get real.

Writing laws to a "3rd grade level" only ENCOURAGES the dumbing-down of society. I think that all laws should continue to be written to the highest level possible, thus encourage all citizens to seek higher education.

Many or a enough of a percentage want just for them and screw you, so the Represenatitive Gov. is being voided by them as Americans we must fight for freedom,

The War on Terror and the War on Freedom here,

The War on Freedom is ongoing and will never stop as long as we have a class of people that say its all about me. Why is that? They will not try to see if justice is served and if they are enriched by others at any cost then their is no parity or Republic, and well no equal treatment under the law.

Or more simply stated might mkaes right and that where the USA is at this time.

I hope this helped.

It's how our Founding Fathers set up the government to prevent the tyranny of the masses.

Well, sometimes it's better to have an expert decide what's best for us, instead of the lay people. And we should better our education system so people can understand the laws, not dumb them down so everyone can understand.

What would help is if we had politicians who did their jobs instead of catering to special interest groups and abusing power.
