I am 5 wks pregnant; my Dr is having me go in for a 3rd blood test. I have had 6 miscarriages in the past, but this is the 1st time that my 2nd blood test showed the pregnancy hormone doubling. Should I be concerned over the 3rd blood test, or is my Dr being extra cautious??

I myself am 9 weeks and i went in for blood work early on the did a hcg saw it was doubling and left it at that. I am also a nurse and even though prenatal care is not my specialty I think your doctor is just being cautious with all of your history. I would make sure to ask your doctor plenty of questions and anything you feel should or should not be done. Don't stress take a few weeks and relax if you can take some time off work. With your miscarriage history I would advise against having intercourse until you are around 13 weeks. Good Luck and God Bless!

To stop stressing is always easier said than done - I know that. I would imagine that since you've already had 6 miscarriages in the past, he is being cautious and trying to make sure that everything is alright every step of the way. I'm pregnant with my second child now - with my last pregnancy I only had bloodwork twice total - once at the beginning and once around 28 weeks. With this one, I have had bloodwork done once so far, and I am 18 weeks along. To be honest, the best answer is for you to just ask your doctor why he/she is having you get a 3rd blood test done. Your doctor is the only one who can give you and actual answer. If something was wrong, he would have precautioned you, so my guess is that it is just a precaution. I don't like asking my doctor questions, so it's understandable if you're nervous. The only way to set your self at ease is just to ask your doctor. You'll get a straight, truthful answer that only your doctor can give you. Good luck.

Your Dr is prob just being extra cautious... because of your history. The 2nd test showed the hormone doubling so thats a great start... dont stress too much..and take extra precaution for the first few weeks. Good Luck

When the hormone is more, it means your pregnancy is progressing. He is probably just having you take another blood test to be on the safe side, because the hormone can go down very quickly thus resulting in a misscarriage. Id say hes being cautious, considering your history. Do they know why you have the misscarriages? Just curious. I've had 2 in my past, all for a reason though.

Never think the worst until the bad news appears. First of all, do not get stressed because this could trigger another miscarriage, and we don't want that. I'm sure your Dr. just wants to be cautious because he/she knows how badly you want this. I wish you the best of luck and keep your head up- after every thunderstorm, the sun does shine. Have hope! This could be the final time, no miscarriage! Good luck, and I'll say a prayer!

Well since you have had the miscarriages in the past, he is probably just being extra careful, which is a good thing. That shows he knows what he is doing and he cares. I know it is hard but try not to stress out, everything happens for a reason, even though some times we don't agree with it. If this baby is meant to be, it will happen for you no matter what. Good Luck and God Bless you.

I know the feeling. I have had 12 miscarriges. I have a toddler and I am 10wks pregnant now. The main thing is to NOT stress out at all. But your hormone balence could be higher because you could be pregnant with twins - you never know - it happend to me! Have you had a ultrasound yet? If not then suggest to the Dr. that you would like one to make sure that there is not any problems. And also to see how far along exactly that you are.

Just relax !! Both of my pregnancies were very hard but it worked out okay.
I freaked out as well. With my 2nd I had to go in 2x's a week for a sonogram to check the fluid levels because they were so low.
I know how you feel but I know staying clam is easier said than done. IT will not help your chances of a successfully pregnancy if
you stress, so if it is a question that is killing you call your DR and
ask for a straight answer.

GOOD LUCK

Ask your doctor why a 3rd blood test is needed. The doc can explain it best.

Also, I was wondering, are you taking a prenatal vitamin with at least 800 mcg of folic acid? This might help. Also, you should completely avoid ALL FORMS OF CAFFEINE (coffee, tea, decaff, soda, chocolate) because it can cause miscarriages, according to studies.

Good luck!
