Rumors have been circulating for a few weeks now that Bin Laden died in Pakistan in August of typhoid. Whether he is dead or not, it has been commonly believed that he was/is hiding out in Pakistan and has been for some time. That does make the military's job a lot harder.
Personally, I'd love to see him drawn and quartered, but I think given his martyr mentality, he'd be MORE upset at living in captivity than dying. I'd keep him alive for that reason only.

In my opinion: Mushariff (president of Pakistan) gave up some land to warring factions friendly to bin laden, recently. Supposedly it was the area around the Afghan border. On the surface (at least to the western world) it looked like a big mistake. However, if you read between the lines, doesn't it look a lot like we won't be offending Mushariff if we go into those mountains a little more aggressively? Won't the warring factions be happy they got their land but, only mad at us (not Mushariff) for trespassing.
I think it makes sense and opens the door for a little more in depth insurgency by the US.

Completely tied by our government. The military would have had him long ago if they were allowed to function on their own but the Bush administration has other uses for Bin Laden as time will tell.

I think we would have gotten bin Laden if Bush hadn't decided all of a sudden to head for Iraq instead. We could have focused on the areas he was suspected to be without splitting our forces. And my husband believes that if we haven't already gotten him, we'd keep our mouths shut when we did, to keep him from becoming a martyr. He thinks bin Laden would just "disappear."

It's not a matter of politicians or hand tying or liberal opinions. It's a matter of osama hiding in a nuclear armed countries northern frontier. We can't go into Pakistan without starting either another war or causing the down fall of president Musharraf. If Musharraf falls it is likely that Taliban or al qaeda sympathizers will take over a nuclear armed nation definitely not in the US interest. He'll die of old age before we get him.

The Democrats don't want Laden to be killed or captured until after 2008.
But, I don't think the Democrats would actually protect him.
But...... you just can't trust Democrats.

The world is a huge place! He could be somewhere in South America for all we know. I think if we stick to the overall mission of defeating terrorism, WE WILL get him soon!!!
