Just tell him that you realize this can be embarrassing but you are his mom and you love him. Make sure he understands that it's just for his health and that you know he isn't a baby any more, but it is one of those times you have to be there. Then after the dr. trip go out for pizza or something cool he likes to do to get his mind off of it.

Since your son spends most of his time with a female, he is probably OK with the doctor being one, although I would try to switch to a male doctor over the next few years. Tell your son, we need to see a doctor to insure nothing is wrong. When your throat hurts, they look at your throat, your leg, same, well, you have an issue with this area and the doctor is going to need to see it in order to help you feel better.
I too was a single mom. I don't know what your dad situation is, but my son's father was not around, he passed away at an early age. As my son grew older, I made it a point to find a male doctor and this worked out very well. I was able to see a nice interaction between two males and my son was able to interact with his doctor better than if it were a female.
Good luck.

Calm your son down. Explain to him that the doctor is just checking what could cause the genital pain. My younger nephew had genital pain and it turned out to be hernia and they have to operate. I hope all turns out well.

He may just be experiencing growing pains, but she may have to do uncomfortable things to him. I'm definitely not a doctor, but this may be awkward for the both of you. Be compassionate with him about this and explain to him that he is seeing a female and you need to be there with him. Best of luck.

Tell him that the Doctor will be looking at his privates and that you Will be there. He shouldn't be scared and that she needs to see whats wrong.
Mom,I know this is hard because we teach out children not to let anyone touch their privates. That's why you need to let him know that this is OK and thats why you will be in there with him

LET HIM KNOW THAT HE IS SEEING A FEMALE DOCTOR AND ALSO YOU HAVE TO BE IN THE ROOM WITH HIM AS WELL. LET HIM KNOW THAT THE DOCTOR WILL HAVE TO TOUCH HIM THEM TO CHECK HIM OUT. HE MAY NOT EVEN CARE BECAUSE HE IS MOST LIKELY TIRED OF THE PAIN.
