Well, the only real issue is SECURITY. If you follow all the instructions with your hardware then you should be fine. Usually the major instructions are:

If using WIFI, use WPA Encryption, hide your SSID, enable your Router Firewall, use the MAC Addresses of each node to restrict other computers or machines from accessing your network, and use a good Software Internet Security Suite with a compatible w/wifi wpa encryption firewall that blocks and monitors both inbound and outbound traffic. Of course the Security Suite will include a solid anti-virus, anti-spy ware, anti-Trojan, anti-keylooger,anti-etc. Panda is excellent, I highly recommend it.

If you are using cabled Ethernet then using a good solid Security Suite as above is adequate protection for your system IF you use a Switch and are not directly connected to the Internet. Direct connections to the Internet expose a network to unnecessary risks. Using a Router with the Ethernet, even if not using the WIFI feature is a good Network Security Protocol all should follow.
