I have put out over 45 applications via internet and pounding the pavement looking for a job. I am a Marine (now inactive) with a long track record of supervisory and management skills with a strong work ethic to boot. I put in at places I would be well suited for but never even get called for an interview. A long time friend calls me to let me know they are taking apps for a position in Logisitcs Management in a warehouse setting (My expertise) Being that she works in the HR dept she gets to review the applications. Out of three of us who put in for the position the least qualified person got the job. He didnt even put in a resume, had not held down a job for more than a few months at a time, had ZERO experience and completed a GED program less than a year ago. I have recently been informed that employers get better Tax breaks if they hire and train people in unemployment job pools or minorities on State assistance. Is this true??

Have you tried the West Michigan (Grand Rapids/Holland/Muskegon) area?. West Michigan is totally different than the rest of Michigan.

"This region has the healthiest economy in the state, and the outlook appears relatively rosy for future hires. That's the consensus of Manpower Inc. and its analyst, Joe Ross.

"Michigan's got two economies right now," Ross said. "One is West Michigan, and the rest of the state."

Ross sees it this way: "If it were a summer movie, we would call it 'Revenge of the West Side,' " Ross said. "West Michigan still is the bright spot in the entire state.""

"Donald Shoemaker, principal for Franklin Partners, said he bought the Siemens Dematic facilities, 4147 and 4247 Eastern Ave. SE, because the regional market has been strong.

"We're asked all the time, 'Why would you go to the worst economy in the nation to do business?' But that's with the east half of Michigan added in," he said.

In West Michigan, the outlook and demand are considerably different than the Detroit area, he said."

I'm in Michigan - I've been looking for a job since May. I send resumes all over, I even will go and apply at jobs that are well below what I am capable of - and I don't even get an interview - nothing. I am convinced that there are at least 150 people applying for the same job - and they have the pick of the litter. The competition is extremely high. I did pay a girl to say she knew me and we were friends - it was for a waitressing job - can you imagine? She did what I asked her too - and they called me for an interview. But I didn't go because I was offered a better paying full time job the day before they called. I took that job for 3 weeks and then suddenly I was layed off again!!! I thought it was going ot be a permanent possition. Now I am back to looking again! It's crazy. It sucks here. I wish we could move but all our family and friends are here. We are so broke. Luckily my fiance is working and we can pay bills. But we're not getting ahead. I feel your pain. I think Michigan is probably the worst economic climate in the US right now...or one of the worst. Good luck to you - I hope you find something soon.

I have been given a job in Michigan in easy terms because of the fact they're very few people in my field. whether, a lot of my friends are instructors and nurses and are leaving the state like a bad habit.
