I'm not a big fan of this community property thing. And those are some of the reasons. I've seen too many lazy men live off their wives and visa versa. I think each person's employment time should factor in to how the assets are divided. Unless the wife has been a stay at home mom and has really done her part of being a good wife and mother. But in the case where there are no children, forget it!

That depends on the situation.
If a woman stays home all day eating bon bons , but cleaning , cooking and raising a house full of children, believe me, she works hard as he does and deserves half of everything.
If she sits home eating bon bons, doesn't do house work, doesn't cook for him or is not raising children, then I don't think she deserves much.
If a husband plays video games and cheats on her, if he earned the money he deserves it , even tho he is a cheating louse.
When I got my divorce , The judge gave me the home, car , alimony etc. I told the judge I did not want anything from the marriage because I wasn't working while I was with him, even though he didn't want me to work and his house was always clean, clean clothes, dinner on the table when he came home from work.
All I ask for was for him to leave me alone, but he said he wouldn't do that and didn't until he ended up in jail.
For cheating I would like to casterate him.

Of course she deserves it. I can't believe a woman sitting all day long watching soaps! Are there any children involved? They DO deserve his money, and the mother too, only because she carried them for 9 months!
If there are no children, ok, maybe she doesn't deserve any money...

it really depends on the circumstances. does the woman sit at home all day and eat bon bons because her husband has emotionally/verbally/physcially/sexually abused her for x amount of years? or is she just a lazy woman who is trying to take advantage of someone. and same goes for a man, has his wife abused him in anyway? if thats the case i believe she/he deserves as much as she/he can get. if they haven't been abused and she/he has cheated on her/his spouse just for play then they deserve nothing.

Of course not , Is this Q about your life or is it general? I don't think it is fair to get the money but you should follow the law ,right? I am against anybody sitting home and not working .I mean,I don't understand people who choose to sit home .At some situation it is understandable while you loose your job for a while or you get sick but otherwise ,every body has to work! Otherwise he or she will get depressed and maybe he or she does things which will destroy the life or marriage!

I think in most states, you have to divide your money in divorce proceedings, but in some states, there is the "alienation of affections" law, whereby if it is proven that a partner cheated, the partner who was cheated on can sue the offending third party involved.

Well... if he is caught cheating, he doesn't get a cent anyway. Nor does the wife. But you must have evidence of the affair.
Otherwise, they may tell her him/ her that they have a certain amount of time to find gainful employment, but until then the other party in the relationship may have to assist them for that duration of time. So my suggestion, get some evidence of the affair.

The two should meet and stay together, now, that's a marriage made in heaven. Neither deserves any money.

if you tolerated them sitting on the couch then consider ity lesson learned. and yes they can get alimony or child support or both. Legal system sees it as a mutual agreement that one "sat on their ***" you tolerated it you pay the price.
As for the answer above this. Adultery does not apply in no fault states. and most states are no fault states
also only the assets accumulated during the marriage can be divided. as for alimony or child support, its based on your income. they usually leave you enough to live on

Sure- why shouldn't they get money? The other person should have to pay a fine for their own stupidity in marrying the losers. We can call it a "Stupidity Fine" - learn to make better choices when picking your spouses and you can avoid the fee.
