300 billion people want 300 billion different services, and someone else to pay for them. What specific services would you like to see go or come from your govt?

Personally, (among many other things) I dont think the govt should be rescuing people who didnt want to leave thier house, nor should they be rebuilding any houses and buisnesses that the insurance companies cut and ran from.

I dont think the govt should be interferring with how buisness' are run. If a buisness wants to be dishonest, let the consumers penalize them by not giving them anymore money. Vote with your feet!

Examples like that!

First, there's not even 300 billion people on the planet. We have 300 million people in the USA. But, that's not a big deal.

What I expect out of my government is to follow what the Constitution says they are supposed to do. And it's not interfering with companies or peoples personal business. The federal government is there to provide a common defense and a common government for dealing with foreign governments or for disputes among states. The federal government should not have its hands in ANY social programs (i.e. Social security, welfare, medicare)

I think government's basic purpose is protecting the weak from the strong. You say let the businesses should be allowed to be dishonest. That's ridiculous. That would let them walk all over their employees, who may not be able to work anywhere else. And if one business is allowed to be crooked, they all are--that means there might not be any honest businesses left standing. And the insurance companies may not have lived up to their obligations, but that doesn't make it morally right to just leave our own people out in the cold as a result. They pay their taxes with the idea that they may get some benefit from their government.

I think that's the point you're missing--we all pay taxes to keep our society going--to keep elderly people from starving and not being able to pay for medical care, to keep others from committing illegal acts, and to protect us when we need it the most. That's more important than going charging into the Middle East and getting into the middle of a civil war.

I believe chris j got it exactly right. The government should do only what the people cannot do for themselves. The people CAN save for their old age and medical needs. So the government should stay out of it. If the private sector wants to get involved in that, then let it happen. There would be a bigger bang for the buck than a bloated government would provide.

The government can build roads, provide for a strong national defense, and keep law-abiding citizens safe from criminals. Yes, that includes the law-abiding people living in our inner cities .

That's all fine and good IF the government weren't spending billions on people outside of this country. I mean, c'mon, if it's there, spend it on the people in THIS country FIRST, make every person in the US priority over every other country and then, and only then, if there's a surplus, help everyone we can. Who does that? I know I take care of my family first, make sure they're provided for THEN determine if I'm able to help others, not the other way around! That's insane! Irresponsible at the very least!
Focus on the people here, first.
I think that's why there's a feeling of entitlement.

Let's just take care of our country and screw the rest of the world. Most of the other countries don't want us there anyway so let them sink or swim on their own. Secure our borders, get rid of all the illegals in this country, tax the rich, get rid of the homeless or those who refuse to work, stop welfare fraud, punish the criminals to the full extent of the law and just enforce our current laws.

I want the government to give free health insurance. I live in a county that has the most uninsured people in the country!! I can't believe we are one of the richest countries (if not the richest) in the world and we don't have universal health care.

The only thing government should do is follow it's own ORIGINAL laws, not change them to suit their whims.

Read the Preamble to the Constitution; this is ALL government is supposed to do.
